Santa Night

is Coming to Town!

Friday, December 12, 2014

December 12, 2014, join our merry band of Santa wannabes who will pop off their "sleigh" (it's really a trolley car) and into local restaurants to entertain patrons for five quick minutes with a rousing carol or two. They will pass a Santa hat for donations and in the blink of an eye they'll be off to the next "rooftop".

Join our Singing Santas to give a "Ho, Ho, Ho" about early childhood education and commit to raise $150 to reserve your seat on the trolley. The Child Development Association provides out- standing early care and learning programs for low-income families. Your support of Santa Night will raise scholarship funds to ensure that children in our community succeed in school.

Buy a ticket on the trolley today for $50 and commit to raising an additional $100 minimum.  Join the fun!

2014 Partners Celebration Award Winners

On Wednesday, October 22nd over 85 community partners came together for our Partners Celebration.  Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization.  In 2013 the CDA welcomed 440 volunteers who contributed more than 1,425 hours of service.  2014 has been just as busy!

This year our 2014 Partner Awards went to:

2014 CDA Volunteer of the Year: Sarah Lucas

Sarah started at the CDA in 2013 by volunteering one day a week in one of our Georgia PreK classes.  Sarah fell in love with the children and began volunteering every Tuesday and Thursday.  She also donated all sorts of items for the classroom such as toys, dress up clothes for dramatic play, notepads and writing utensils.

She has made the CDA a family affair.  Two of her grown children have spent time volunteering and reading  in the classroom.  Her husband, Will, built an outdoor garden display that Sarah filled with flowers and herbs.  Sarah has been a ray of sunshine in our PreK classroom and the CDA is lucky to have her.

2014 CDA Faith Partner of the Year:

First Baptist Roswell mirrors the CDA's early motto of "Love in Action".  First Baptist's children's ministry takes a holistic approach that allows children to grow physically, mentally, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Here are just a few ways that First Baptist Roswell has contributed to CDA over the years.

  • The First Ladies of First Baptist are famous for their Halloween celebrations complete with refreshments and crafts projects.
  • The Men's Ministry lent a hand, actually many hands, to add a creative arts space.
  • The Women on Mission group generously collected in-kind contributions for our cafeteria and classrooms.
First Baptist has been making a monthly financial contribution to the CDA for many years and this is crucial to the success of our organization.

2014 Volunteer Partner of the Year:

This unique mother-son organization has been busy helping the CDA with a variety of projects since 2011.  Some of their hands on contributions include:

  • Providing classroom coverage so teachers could attend staff meetings and training.
  • Assisting during Parent Night
  • Landscaping
  • Summer Camp Program
  • Dr. Seuss Week
  • Down Home Derby set up
Their most singular contribution has been a three-year partnership with Edu-Pack to give every PreK student (all 66 of them) a backpack filled with school supplies for Kindergarten.

2014 Corporate Partner of the Year:  Home Depot

Home Depot, led by Brock Darby, took the CDA by storm. They brought store managers and a dozen Home Depot vendors to walk every inch of the CDA and made long, detailed lists of projects that needed repair, replacement and upkeep. One of our favorite projects is the mural that employee Lori Ball-Jackson drew and a team of Home Depot employees painted. It brightens up the room and makes us smile everyday!

We also recognized the tireless efforts of our CDA staff coordinators, Yehymmy Mora and Heath Roebuck.  They both spend countless hours working with our volunteer groups each year.  We couldn't do it without them.

It takes many hands to keep the CDA running everyday.  We appreciate all of our partners.

  • We launched a new fundraiser, Santa Night! Shout Outs to Jeff McCoy, Diane Dooley, NPCC volunteers and all the fundraising elves, 5 Seasons Breweries and The Roswell Tap.  Because of you, this first annual event netted over $15,000.
  • We held our first ever Birthday Bash honoring Mayor Jere Wood.  Thanks to Claudia Graham, Linda Lee Parker, Manuela Myrich, Chad Hagan, Jeff Petrea for their support in pulling off this great successful fundraiser.
  • We had one of our most successful Down Home Derby's ever and broughtto ith new volunteer chairs Emily and Brian Austin.
