Fish Oil May Help Curb Seizure Frequency in Epilepsy
|
Science Daily
The omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are able to cross over from the bloodstream into heart cells where they work to stabilize heart rhythm and protect against heart attacks.
This is particularly important for people with epilepsy because they have a significantly higher risk of having a heart attack than those without the condition.
And experimental research indicates that omega 3 fatty acids can also cross over into the central nervous system, where they reduce the excitability of brain cells which trigger seizures.
But previous research looking at the impact of high dose fish oil on seizure frequency in people whose epilepsy no longer responded to treatment, found that it didn't affect seizure frequency.
The researchers in the current study wanted to know what difference, if any, low dose fish oil made to seizure frequency and/or cardiovascular health. Continue reading

Get FIT App Research Study
|
The professor of Health and Exercise Science at Rowan University in New Jersey is currently performing a research study to test the effectiveness of a nutrition and fitness mobile app that was developed for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and their caregivers. She needs to recruit 100 subjects who are at least 16 years of age to simply view a YouTube tutorial on how to use the app, download it, and fill out an online survey on their opinions of the effectiveness and ease of usage of the app. Click here for the link to the YouTube video tutorial on the app.
The app itself is website based and can be accessed via desktop or mobile at www.getfitmobile.com. She have also provided a link here to the informed consent form (that can be signed electronically) and the evaluation survey:
If you or anyone you know fit the study participation criteria (can range from ADHD, Asperger's, autism, etc.) please relay this information!! You can message me here on FB (www.fb.com/Barbara.Fralinger.21) or at [email protected] if you have questions!! Those who complete the survey will receive a $20 gift card. Is there anyone who would be willing to do this??"
