22 more students are added to the ranks of MSS alumni

June 2016

Beautiful summer weather is upon us and I for one am very grateful! Along with the lovely
weather, I'm grateful for the impressive accomplishments of our recent grads. It's satisfying to hear that our young alums have been well-prepared to move out into the wider world with the skills and confidence to make their mark, and you can read about some of their achievements as well as how they give back to the community below.

Congratulations to our newest MSS alumni, the Class of 2016! We are happy to have you as proud members of the MSS Alumni Family!

Also, we want to hear from the MSS Class of 2012. What will you be doing in the fall? Send us a high school graduation photo and let us know where you'll be going to college.

Have a great summer!

MSS Alums Help Judge Science Fair

Edison Hatter (MSS 2014) and Jamie Orndorff (MSS 2005) at the MSS Science Fair
The annual Science Fair took place at Mother Seton on March 16th, with students in grades 3 through 8 participating. A special bonus this year was the presence of three of our alums as judges:
Edison Hatter Jaime Orndorff,  and  Megan McGee . Edison (MSS 2014) a sophomore at Catoctin High School, is the son of Ed Hatter, former MSS student, who coordinates the Science Fair. Jamie (MSS 2005) is currently getting her Masters degree in Biology from Mount St. Mary's and works at Alizee Pathology. Megan (MSS 2013) is a junior at Walkersville High. Thanks for helping judge and setting a good example for our students!

Walter Purdum '82

Congratulations to Walter Purdum (MSS 1982) who completed the Camino de Santiago, the 500 mile pilgrimage across northern Spain, in October 2015. Taking him 37 days to complete the journey, Walter said "It was a magical hike meeting people from all over the world and having a pilgrim mass every evening." He urges all MSS alumni and followers of Christ to take the journey.

Phillip Lawrence '96

Congratulations to Phillip Lawrence (MSS 1996) for receiving the Medal of Valor from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office for his bravery in assisting to disarm a dangerous man holding a woman hostage. According to the news report, Sheriff Jim DeWees stated "This situation could have easily turned deadly at any moment. Because of the actions of these deputies, the female victim and her 20-month-old daughter are alive and unharmed, and so is the hostage taker, which is very rare in these situations." We are so proud of you, Phillip!
Lilly Shumaker '10

Congratulations to
Lilly Shumaker (MSS 2010). Lilly is currently a sophomore at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, MD, studying Business Administration. She has made Dean's list every semester with a 4.0 average. She joined the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority and is very involved in its philanthropic activities. Way to go, Lilly!
Marah Williams '12

On October 28, 2015, Marah Williams (MSS 2012), a senior at Catoctin High, was awarded the International Leo of the Year for 2015. Andrew Neibecker and Brendan Isaacson at their Eagle ceremony
Two of our grads recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest possible rank in Scouting. Brendan Isaacson and Andrew Neibecker, both Class of 2011, were awarded the rank on December 26, 2015. Andrew's Eagle Scout project involved rehabilitating the Willow Rill Nature Trail behind Mother Seton School, which is used by students and staff for hands-on environmental activities. Brendan's Eagle Scout project was the construction of a fenced play area around St. Joseph's Parish Hall, to provide a safe area for children and their parents. Congratulations and thanks to Andrew and Brendan!
