President's Message

Laura Neubauer
President, NAWBO California
The theme for the 2015-2016 NAWBO California Board was "FOCUS ON THE FUTURE".
From the Propel Conference,
to our discussions and decisions,
they were all aligned with this
theme.  The NAWBO CA Board
and Leadership worked to support
the local chapters. We launched the new website that is driven by the
local chapter's content. We consolidated the monthly board and chapter
leadership calls to collaborate on monthly topics. And our three hour board meeting in Sacramento reinforced that NAWBO CA with their collective ideas will continue to advance the NAWBO organization.

To have a vision of the future, is to have a vision of improvement or change. We get busy in our own lives and businesses and tend to live more of our time in the moment, than in the future. If we look at the future of what we want to accomplish, or dream the dream we may have, we can navigate the path to get there. Our time and efforts can then be prioritized to reaching our destination.
As most of us will enter the last 30 days of our term, it is not a time to slow down, it is a time to speed up. A time to prep the new leadership for their future. As leaders we are obligated to support and ease the path for those who follow.

We are fortunate to be participating in an organization with a depth of history. And now, NAWBO CA is fortunate to have members and leaders with the knowledge, talent and innovation to continue moving forward to the future.
I appreciate the NAWBO CA board members, chapter leaders and every volunteer in California for the work that you have done. It takes quite a team of volunteers to make it happen.  I sincerely thank all of you. It has been a pleasure to serve as your NAWBO CA president this year. Remember to always GO BIG!

Thank you,
Laura Neubauer
Special News Article
Who wants to be a Womanaire?

The progress of women-owned businesses (WOBs) is
strong and growing faster than male-owned businesses.
The US has 9,932,434 WOBs, making up 36.2% of all businesses. [1]

WOBs have grown 68% since 2007, compared with 47%
for all businesses. [2] Receipts generated by WOBs total
$1.6 trillion, an increase of 35% since 2007.  By comparison, male-owned receipts grew just 33.8%.

According to American Express Open, "The only bright spot in recent years with respect to privately-held company job growth has been among women-owned firms...adding an estimated 340,000 jobs since 2007. Among men-owned  and equally-owned firms, employment has declined over  the past eight years." [3]

Yet - while the number of WOBs is rising-the financial value and wealth for women business owners being created is  not. Only 1.8% of women's businesses successfully scale past the one million dollar revenue mark (versus 6.3% for men) [4] .

Most are simply creating their own jobs, and many are significantly underpaid. The Institute of Women's Policy Research's Jessica Milli explains, "...women-owned businesses make only about 25 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn." [5]

NAWBO California President, Laura Neubauer, put it this way, at PROPEL 2016: "We need to create companies and not just create our own income. Companies that scale support many families. We need to think bigger than our  own satisfaction. We need more Womanaires. That will  make the difference!"
