Chinatown & Callowhill

The Chinatown and Callowhill neighborhoods are just northeast of PAFA and Stiles Hall! While still maintaining moderately affordable rental rates, these vibrant neighborhoods are a great place to grab some cheap eats at see some sights such as:
  • Vox Populi Gallery Complex
  • Asian Arts Initiative
  • The Chinatown Friendship Arch
  • Union Transfer
  • Underground Arts

Market East & Washington Square West

Market East & Washington Square West have pretty good rental rates in their many high-rise apartment buildings that are within walking distance of PAFA. There are also many restaurants and tourist destinations in these neighborhoods such as:
  • Reading Terminal Market
  • Washington Square Park
  • The Walnut Street Theater
  • The Wanamaker building, Macy's Center - home to the one of the largest pipe organs in the world

 
 
Rittenhouse

This upscale neighborhood is a few block southwest of PAFA's campus. Home to many high-end department stores, boutiques and a large city park, this area is less affordable than other part of the city. Things to do include:
  • Mutter Museum
  • Parc Restaurant
  • Rittenhouse Square
  • The Dandelion Restaurant

Logan Square, Spring Garden and Fairmount

Also known as the Art Museum District, These large neighborhoods run along the north side of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The rent is a little higher; however, there are many places to visit in this area including :
 
 
Old City & Society Hill

Old City & Society Hill are more expensive neighborhoods with some of the oldest buildings and residences in the city. There are many restaurants, galleries and tourist attractions here such as:

University City (West Philly)

West of the Schuykill River, University City is home to many Penn and Drexel University students. This quaint neighborhood has pretty affordable rent and quirky restaurants and parks:
  • Clark Park
  • Woodlands Cemetery
  • Institute of Contemporary Art
  • Arthur Ross Gallery

Northern Liberties & Fishtown

Accessible by the Market-Frankford Line, Northern Liberties & Fishtown are super trendy and affordable. This up-and-coming neighborhood is home to:


Bella Vista & East Passyunk (South Philly)

South Philly is a exciting community with an alternative vibe. There is pretty affordable housing and plenty of shops and sights to see including:
  • Magic Gardens
  • Philly Aids Thrift
  • Chapterhouse Cafe
  • Pat's Cheesesteaks
  • The Italian Market
  • The Mexican Market
