Atomic Cafe:  July Pop up gallery and Performance

With joy and a bit of trepidation, The Atomic Cafe presents the spoken word mayhem of Jimmy Doom. A native Detroiter, actor, and former frontman of storied punk band The Almighty Lumberjacks of Death, Jimmy will explore the damp alleys and greasy light posts of  the world of self love in a brand new piece "The Masturbation is Implied", and inspired by the art of Erika Jane Mallette. Due to the graphic content, 18 and over strongly advised.

An exhibit featuring new photos by Detroit fireman Shane Klug. With over a decade on the job, Shane captures themes of a city in flux with a unique perspective regarding architecture, destruction, and what's next for Detroit. Expect to see a mix of images of folks on the job, fire scenes, and memorials documented from a fresh perspective. Preview Shane's work on Instagram by searching #deathofmotorcity @dfdlad26.

What Pipeline:  S.O.A.P.Y. Stage III: Detroit
What Pipeline extends the exhibition through July 19. Servants Order ov Ancient Psychik Youth (S.O.A.P.Y.) hails mainly from Frankfurt am Main and Berlin. They are disciples of "Magick", a term which comes from the ancient struggle between Greece and Persia, where Paranoid Apollonian Gods came face to face with an obscure chaos ready to shatter their virginal statues. Magick is, has always been, and always will be the enemy of a sterile planet with its ascetic ideals.

The Carr Center:  The Very Thought of You / Rising Suns
Visit their new outdoor installation in Harmonie Park created by the design team Anya Sirota + Akoaki and see the 2014 Emerging Artist show. The Rising Sun exhibition features sculpture, installation, video, painting, and photography from 6 female artists working in and around Detroit.
Artist to Artist: Artists work in isolation but isolation has its costs. Meet up with other artists, show your work, and get inspired.

Salt & Cedar Letterpress:  Selections from "Turns and Returns" and 'Silva Rerum' pop-up bookstore
Turns and Returns is a selection of ephemeral lists and photographs created by Gavin Christie, re-presented by his sister Leona Christie. A resident of suburban Detroit since 1976, Gavin ritually types and hand-writes memories of dates, directions, TV shows, books, stores, and snacks, as well as artist statements about his work, and other people's memories that he finds on the internet. Salt & Cedar also hosts Silva Rerum, a bookstore that focuses on offerings from independent presses, poetry, literature, children's books, art books, prints, and journals.

Signal-Return Press: Motor Signal #6
Motor Signal finishes its first season of innovative poetry readings at Signal-Return with the poet Sean Kilpatrick. His latest book is "Gil the Nihilist" and he is published at Boston Review, Fence, BOMB, Columbia Poetry Review, and Vice.

Trinosophes:  Cheick Hamala Diabate
Born in Mali into a family of Griots, who are traditional musicians/storytellers/teachers and keepers of tribal tradition and history, Cheick Hamala Diabate is an acknowledged master of the "ngoni," the African forerunner to the banjo. He performs as a soloist, preserving an 800-year-old oral tradition, but is truly a Griot of the 21st century as well and performs with an electric band that lays down heavy grooves to support the master.
