Everything's Coming Up Pumpkin!

Does it seem as if the food world has turned into pumpkin mania this year?  From craft pumpkin ales to pumpkin spice lattes to pumpkin showing up on just about every chef's menu this year, it does seem that the great pumpkin rules. Pumpkin usually is not eaten prepared simply by itself - it needs sugar and spices to make it palatable. It is a unique food in that you can eat the entire pumpkin: flesh, seeds and even the pumpkin blossoms! Pumpkins range in size from small to very large - the world record for the largest pumpkin weighed in at a whopping 1689 lbs!

The great pumpkin holds another title too. It's a nutritious low calorie, high fiber food.
It is low in sodium and pumpkin seeds contain protein, iron and vitamin B. So this week when the little goblins in your house get hungry, serve up some roasted pumpkin and pack those seeds for a nutritious on-the-go snack.

Happy Halloween, see you at the markets!

Sincerely,
Mitch, Debbie, Jessica, PR, Jill, Diana and Chef Lynn
Jason, Aaron, Alex, Jeb & Steve (the muscle team)
