Need Funding For Your Small Business? SBA Loan Programs Might Be The Answer

Starting a small business takes time, hard work, and money. Depending on your type of business and you   r present financial situation, you may find you need to reach to outside sources for funding.
One resource you can turn to for assistance in obtaining a loan to start or grow your business is the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). While the SBA does not directly lend money to small businesses, it can facilitate loans with third party lenders. Various banks, credit unions, community development organizations, and microlending institutions throughout the U.S. partner with the SBA to provide funding to small businesses without access to other financing options with reasonable terms.
SBA sets specific guidelines for loans, which are made by its partners, and it guarantees that they'll be repaid by the borrowers. This benefits small business owners by giving them access to much-needed funding, and it eliminates some of the risk to the lending partners.
To qualify for an SBA loan, your business must meet certain criteria regarding business size, financial standing, and others. You must also meet the credit qualifications of the lender.
Several advantages of SBA loans over conventional loans include... Read More
Microsoft Business Blog:  4 Ways Your Small Business Can Embrace Innovation
By Cindy Bates

Innovation is quite possibly one of the most overused words in the business world today, but the definition - a new method, idea, or product - is at the center of what allows small businesses to expand and contribute to overall economic growth.
Once considered antiquated, brands like Old Spice and The Yellow Pages have managed to successfully innovate in the modern age - reinventing themselves to reach a new generation of consumers. Whether you have a long-standing business in need of a refresh or you're just getting started, continuous innovation helps your business stay relevant and top of mind for consumers ... Read More

PA Careerlink:  The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act

By  Martin Wubbolt, Site Administrator, PA CareerLink Lebanon County

Beginning July 1, 2016, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) officially begins. This act replaces a more well-known regulation known as the Workforce Investment Act, more commonly known as WIA, which was enacted in 1998.
WIOA is the first major overhaul of services provided by Local workforce investment areas. The fiscal agent for Lebanon County is SCPAWorks, formerly the South Central Workforce Investment Board. These services are provided for by federal and state funds and include services such as English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education, General Educational Development (GED) services, job search assistance, skills training, employer-based training, etc. These services are provided through the local PA CareerLink, a local educational provider, or onsite at a local employer.
Under WIA, the services the PA CareerLink was most likely to provide to an employer was employee referral, pre-qualification of potential employees, and on-the-job training (OJT). Under WIOA these same services are still available to an employer. Under WIOA the change that would be of the most interest to employers is the expansion of funding available for incumbent worker training and apprenticeship training.
Pennsylvania has published their final guidance on what this will look like but the hope is that guidance will be sent out sometime in the near future. Feel free to keep in contact with your local Business Services Representative (BSR) at the PA CareerLink in your county.
Ribbon-Cutting
On Wednesday, May 4, the Chamber joined Youth Advocate Programs (YAP) and other community leaders in celebrating YAP's newly constructed greenhouse with a ribbon-cutting event! YAP is a nonprofit providing nonresidential, community-based programs.
Various local dignitaries were present at the ribbon-cutting, as well as some of the youth who aided in building the greenhouse and who will continue to maintain the structure and its numerous plants. Jeanne Arnold, who provided a portion of the funding for the greenhouse program, was also present.
Congratulations YAP on this new endeavor and accomplishment!

Columbia Cottage didn't disappoint, once again offering their famous sangria and a delectable spread of hors d'oeuvres, including miniature tacos and quesadillas!
Columbia Cottage held their Business After Hours networking event on Thursday, May 12, in order to showcase the facility's courtyards and to celebrate "Older Americans Month."
The Chamber's Business After Hours receptions are designed to provide the organization's members and other business attendees with the chance to network with area business people and to develop new potential client contacts. The receptions provide members with a means to gain exposure for their business or organization.
LLV Health & Human Services Day!
LLV classmates at First Aid & Safety Patrol's headquarters.
The Chamber's Leadership Lebanon Valley (LLV) program held its Health and Human Services Day on Tuesday, May 10. The goal of this LLV day was that "LLV participants will develop a deeper appreciation for, and understanding of, the basic human needs of at-risk persons in Lebanon County, resources available to them, and the leadership challenges that relate to health and human services."
Other learning objectives for the day included "to understand the economic impact of providing/not providing health and human services," "to explore what it means in leadership to have the ability to be both objective and empathetic," and "to gain an understanding of what services exist and the network of agencies that provide them"...Read More
