Byers' Choice--Comings and Goings

We are excited to announce that we have received the new signed pieces for 2016! Last month we mentioned the May Day girls, but now we have six other styles of carolers that are also signed by Joyce Byers.  This includes the Strawberry Vendor, this caroler is an adult female.  She is wearing a black and white striped skirt with a white shirt and a straw hat.  She is carrying two baskets filled with strawberries.

In honor of the upcoming election, Byers Choice created a Campaign Boy and Girl,  which are both signed by Joyce Byers .   The Campaign Boy is wearing striped pants, and navy blue sweater and is carrying a sign suggesting we all vote for Santa this year.  The Campaign Girl  is wearing a red and white striped skirt, a white sweater, and is also carrying a sign promoting Santa. Byers Choice have also created a Patriotic Picket Fence  to coordinate with the boy and girl.  Helping you set your own election scene.

Included in the signed pieces is the Nautical Mrs. Claus. She is wearing a navy blue dress, scarf, and carrying a life preserver.  She is meant to coordinate with the 2016 Nautical Santa.   Finally, we have two pieces from the Nutcracker ballet, Clara and Drosselmeyer, which are both signed.

We are sad to announce that Byers Choice will be retiring their nativity carolers at the end of the year.  We do have many of these carolers on hand; however, we have limited quantities.  So if there is something you would like to order to complete your collection, please let us know as soon as possible.
Fontanini Dated Ornaments

Every year, we have people looking for dated ornaments (i.e. ornaments with the year on it) and this year we are excited about the new dated ornament from Fontanini.  The ornament features the Holy Family framed in a creche. Above the family is a banner that says "Silent Night" and hanging from the bottom is a heart inscribed with 2016.

In addition to the dated ornament, we also have many new pieces just waiting to be added to your collection. Lucas (Boy Shepherd), Claudia (Florist), Allon (Basket Weaver), and Emma (Shepherdess) are some of the new pieces. There is also a new pig family, with 3 cute little pigs.

The Limited Edition piece for 2016 is Dionysius. He is helping make the wine. This piece is available only for 2016 and has been understamped with the date 12-31-2016.
This piece is in stock now so please call soon if you are interested and we will hold it or we can mail it to you.

We have just received a large shipment of all your favorite regular Fontanini characters, animals and buildings. Be sure to check them all out next time you are at Tannenbaum.
Woodwick Candles
We have added new scents and brought back some of our favorite scents in new containers.  Scarlett Berry and Lilac are two of the new fragrances we will carry in the traditional medium jars.   In addition, we have new candles that look and smell like classic holiday pies (Cherry, Blueberry, and Pumpkin pie).

We will continue to carry our popular fragrances, such as Fireside, Current, Frasier Fir, and Vanilla Bean.  This year, in addition to carrying the traditional jars, we will also be carrying these fragrances in a variety of decorative containers.  The new containers make these candles a fun, attractive accessory.
The Magnets Are in....
This year's shipment of Embellish My Story magnets are in.  These magnets are a wonderful way to display your photos in your office, on your refrigerator, or in a bedroom.  The magnets allow you to create a story to compliment the memories of your favorite photos.  Every year we have magnets relating to life events (e.g. birth of child, wedding, etc), holidays (e.g. Christmas, Halloween, 4th of July), and seasonal (e.g. going to the lake, flowers, leaves, etc) .
Frykman
A few months ago, we told you about this year's David Frykman exclusive "Christmas Joy" and we are happy to announce that this piece is arriving this month!  One of David's most inspirational pieces, this year's Santa is dressed in blue and is showing off the new holy baby. The base of the figure is inscribed with Merry Christmas, Tannenbaum, and Door County.  All pieces are hand painted, numbered, and personally signed by David Frykman.
Dicken's Village
Throughout their history, Department 56 has enjoyed creating tribute pieces to their favorite author, Charles Dickens.   This year, Department 56 created the Dickens Village Anniversary Gazebo to show Charles and Catherine Dickens offering an anniversary toast with silver goblets.  The raised peek of the six-sided gazebo offers an enchanting glow that compliments all of the detailed carved stone under the patina copper roof.

A Harbourmaster's role is vast, with responsibilities ranging from port maintenance and operations, to customs and inspections, to safety and pollution control.  In Great Britain, the Harbourmaster is considered an appointed position to serve as the Queen's (or King's) Harbourmaster, and is typically served by an officer of the Royal Navy.  Like other buildings bearing the designation "By Appointment to Her Majesty," this charming rendition of a Harbourmaster's House carries the Royal Coat of Arms.  From the large upper story window, the Harbourmaster can easily watch the port from all sides of this home.  In addition, telescopes on the balcony provide a long view of incoming vessels.  While built on the dock's edge of brick and stone to withstand storms, the heavy patina of the roof proves salt is in the air.  Creative details include the porthole window on the top gable and the artistic fish motifs carved in the stonework.  A sign with compass coordinates and cartons from faraway lands add trim to the side. This impressive home can be accessorized with the From Across the Pond piece.  From Across the Pond shows a mailman delivering packages to the Harbourmaster.

During the 19th Century, uncomfortable spring mattresses were topped with a straw, horse hair, or wool mattress, and then feather bedding.  It was common practice to air out all of the bed linens including the feather bed, preferably near the window.  Six Geese Bedding and Down represents a great source in London for feathered bed linens.  Goose heads are carved in stone to adorn the roof peaks.  In addition, there are six doors providing shelter to the six birds used in this facility.  A chimney cap, gutter spout, rain barrel, mail slot, horse hitches, and fun signage are just some of the details that adorn this beautiful Dicken's piece.  In addition, there is the Perfect Pillow piece that shows the feather bedding airing out and a little girl embracing a feather pillow.

Kings Cake has been a tradition highlighting the final night of the 12 Days of Christmas. The 12 Days of Christmas start on December 25th and concluded on the 12th night, January 5th, the eve of the Epiphany.  On that night, families would celebrate the 3 Kings arrival with a King's Cake.  During the celebration, a memory game was played, which later came to be the popular song "The 12 Days of Christmas."  Today Kings Cakes take on another special significance in the United States, particularly in New Orleans for the celebration of Mardi Gras.  Traditionally, the cinnamon cakes are decorated with the traditional colors of the three kings- green, purple, and gold- and are baked with a tiny plastic baby inside, representing the Christ child.  It was believed that whoever is served the slice containing the baby is said to enjoy special privileges.
The King's Cake Bakery offers the best of all types of holiday desserts from plum puddings and fruit cakes to bread puddings and King's cakes.  The peninsula windows in front allow bakers to tempt shoppers with delicious looking displays.  Protected behind the locked gate on the side, tiny sculpted crates hold valuable ingredients such as sugar, fruits, and spices.  A small door in the chimney allows the baking assistants to fuel the stove, using the convenient nearby stacks of fire-wood.  This bakery is paired with the Twelfth Night Temptation.  This accessory shows a young boy taking a piece of cake off a vendor cart and feeding it to his dog.

Victorian London, during the 19th century, was the capital city center of a vast growing empire, making it the epicenter for government, military, finance, and the arts.  During this time, there was a growing movement by the "Brotherhood of the Pre-Raphaelites" who advocated classic composition and styled with vivid color pallets in artwork - a contrast to the impressionism movement of France.  The London Gallery showcased the fine Pre-Raphaelite art by such masters as Millais, Hung, and Rossetti.  With the design cues of an English manor house, debossed organic shapes add an elegant touch to the gallery.  Peek inside the specially designed large bay windows to see the miniature examples of classic Pre-Raphaelite works.  This gallery is perfectly accompanied by the Rossetti and His Muse piece, which shows Rossetti painting his muse.

Frost Fair Roasted Ox is a new addition to last year's Frost Fair series.  Frost Fair, a lively winter celebration along the river Thames, is a welcomed venue for spirited entertainment during the cold months.  Accompanying foods would have included warm dishes from the Roasted Ox.  After proper time on the spit, entrees ranged from plates of sliced meat to stew.  Carving tools are found in the back while serving pieces wait at the side window.  This charming piece is adorned with diamond windows, Double-Dutch door, and a round tower with curtain windows.  This restaurant can be paired with the Frost Fair Treat, which shows a man and his son enjoying time at the Frost Fair.

Tudor styling, a variety of window shapes and side staircases are some of the delightful features of  Duke's  Wheel Cheese Shoppe, a perfectly fitting specialty shop for Londontown (for any home in the Wisconsin).  Stocked for the holiday season, the convenient ice boxes in front are so full that the excess cheese wheels are stored on top.  Empty barrels wait in the back for return to Cheshire County, West England.  Sculpted lamp posts welcome shoppers.  To accompany this piece, Department 56 also made the Cheese Samples for All accessory, which shows a woman handing out cheese samples from a display table.
