Dear Artists and Supporters-
The Sacra mento River Delta at Clarksburg is home to Heringer Estates Vineyards where artists will e njoy the lush surroundings of beautiful vineyards, the stunning grounds of  the Heringer family estate and the Elk Horn Slough which winds its way along the property.  It is also where owner Steve Heringer grew up on the land and did the "Huckleberry Finn thing" building forts and camping along the banks of the slough.  Now he and his grown children, Mike the winemaker, Stephen the vineyard manager, and Stacy the Wine Club manager, representing the sixth generation to farm the region, work together on this successful family business, which also includes their tasting room in the Old Sugar Mill.
There definitely is a magic to this 220-acre property where the family has farmed since the early 1900s.  They originally grew grain and row crops, moving into grapes in 1972; now, their 120 acres of premium grapes include 24 distinct varietals.  There is a deep sense of history on the land first settled by the family from Holland, from the 120-year-old barn which the family plans to turn into a family and ag museum to the  1950's home with its Frank Lloyd Wright inspired look, designed by Stephen's uncle and mother, Marjorie, (who at 94 is still enjoying the garden and grounds she spent 65 years creating).
During the farm visit artists can choose from a variety of intimate settings including the old oaks on top of the levee, towering over the broad slough, to sweeping vistas of the coastal range to the east and Mt. Diablo in the distance.
Please note: A photographer will be on site to take photographs of artists painting which the Heringer family would like to use on their website. Artists who agree to be photographed will be asked to sign a release form.
The Heringer Family has farmed Clarksburg soils since 1868.
