Mayor Francis Slay visits Doorways

Mayor Slay visited Doorways and met with residents of
Cooper House. Many of the residents were taken back, surprised that the mayor of St. Louis would take the time to pay them a visit! Doorways President and CEO, Opal M. Jones, gave Mayor Slay a tour of Cooper House and Doorways' offices.

Mayor Slay's plan to end chronic homelessness has been celebrated nationally. Last year it was the subject of a Next Practices roundtable at Harvard University focusing on the city's improvements in engagement, assessment, case management and data management and a 122% increase in permanent supportive housing units.
Christmas in July

Santa visited families at our Mama Nyumba and Kaya Malaika apartments as part of our National Night Out activities this month.

The event gives families an opportunity to come together and enjoy time in activities as a family. There were games for young and old alike, including balloon animals, relay games and the very popular cake walk (thanks to all who donated!). Kids received gifts from Santa and dinner was provided for all in attendance.

Summer Blitz

destruction and despair. Where can these people go? What can be done to protect them while successfully integrating them back into our communities? What can your organization do to assist with their plight?  Three years ago, Doorways... (cont.)
