Background :
The Jewish Community Council of Rockaway Peninsula (JCCRP) and the Queens Jewish community Council (QJCC) are partnering to form the Queens Jewish Poverty Coalition (QJPC).
 
Job Title:               QJPC Coordinator
                             ( Part-Time/Temporary Position/12 Months/Anticipated

Primary Purpose:   To formalize the QJPC by assisting in forming new partnerships, secure additional funding and increase access to social services in Queens.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The coordinator will spend their first month learning about all of the programs that both councils offer and familiarizing themselves with the staff members, grants, and community needs. The coordinator will then need to identify the gaps of service within each agency and seek to remedy them by adding services from one agency to the other. The coordinator will then need to spend time learning about the individual needs of the current communities we serve and help identify the geographical gaps where services are needed and not currently being provided. The coordinator will then need to find suitable partners within those areas to bring in our services. The coordinator will be trained in as many of the programs for them to help deliver the services on their own. Additionally, they will need to supervise the programs to ensure that other staff members being placed in their new sites are delivering adequate services.  The coordinator will need to ensure that proper outreach is conducted to educate community members on the new service locations within the council's and added partners. The coordinator will look for other potential agencies that may want to join once they see the model in practice. Lastly, the coordinator will need to seek new funding from government contracts that can ensure the viability of the coalition and councils for years to come.

Qualifications:
  • Superior skill working with people who are under great stress
  • Must have knowledge and experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, MS Excel, and Google Document.
  • Familiarity with governments grants
  • Able to work with an Internet-based data base
  • Familiarity with social services

 
 
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree with at least one year of social services employment preferred or other pertinent experience.
 
Language Skills:  Able to fluently speak, write, and read English; second language preferred
 
Mathematical Skills:   Basic
 
Reasoning Ability:      Advanced
 
Physical Demands :     Ability to travel on public transportation to service sites.
 
Work Environment:    Fast-pacedoffice environment serving people under great stress, commitment to serving poor or vulnerable New Yorkers. Familiarity with the Orthodox Jewish Population.
