From the Executive Director

More Green Buildings!

That has been my "thing" and a lot of people agree. There are many that disagree, however: they want More Green COMMUNITIES and now we want  MORE LIVING BUILDINGS! and it could go on and on, ever ambitious for a better world.

I am going to hold on to the basic "green building" thing because people who get it get it - and know that green buildings are only amplified in their essential effects when linked as components of sustainably-planned communities, would only be better if they met the Living Building Challenge, and would only be really greener if more green people were activated to make them come to fruition.

Sometimes a simple message resonates, and the nuances are embraced further into the engagement. So far, the work of the USGBC has followed a successful path for transformation - LEED was (and is) a simplification for the building process, but it has gotten a lot of people to change their ways. And it has gotten more responsive and comprehensive over time. I imagine our sister systems will go through a similar evolution.

So thank you, green people - your commitment to our fundamental interests in sustainability and a just future are what power this movement. We are structured through this organization to become more effective at market transformation and regulatory advocacy. Let's continue to engage more and more of our colleagues and allies to support our agenda for More Green Buildings, and know that this will help us take a leadership position to then diversify and support the breadth of aspects of sustainability in the built environment.

Thank you for helping us to drive sustainable and regenerative design, construction and operation of buildings and communities in Massachusetts - and beyond!

Grey Lee, Executive Director
