ELECTION TO FILL CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 3 SEAT MOVES INTO  A RUNOFF
Vote Buttons
A runoff election is needed to determine who will fill the District 3 City Council Seat in Sandy Springs. With  1,907 ballots counted, none of the five candidates vying for the City Council seat received a majority of the total votes plus one.  In accordance with state law, voters will choose between the candidates receiving the two highest numbers of votes: Chris Burnett and Joe Houseman.  The runoff election will take place on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 between the hours of 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Hammond Park, Round Program Building, located at 6005 Glenridge Drive.  Advance voting will take place Saturday, June 11 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Monday-Friday, June 13-17, 2016 between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Hammond Park, Round Program Building. The election fills the seat left vacant by District Three Council member Graham McDonald. McDonald resigned on March 11, 2016 to pursue the District 52 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives. Only voters in District Three may vote in this non partisan election.

CITY EARNS PURPLE HEART DISTINCTION
During its June 7, 2016 meeting, the Sandy Springs City Council will hold a ceremony honoring Purple Heart recipients and celebrate the city's newest title - Purple Heart City. In honor of the proclamation as a Purple Heart Medal City, residents who are recipients of a Purple Heart Medal are invited to a special commemoration event at City Hall on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. and the presentation will take place at 6 p.m. at the beginning of the City Council's scheduled meeting. Those who are able to attend are asked to RSVP by calling 770.206.1502
ROAD WORK AHEAD!
To keep you informed of road work underway, we've created several ways to help you keep connected.  Bookmark www.sandyspringsga.gov/roadwork on the City's website or download the Sandy Springs Works mobile app (free in the app store) and click on Road Work for updates.
Currently in Progress:
The intersection of Mt Vernon and Sandy Springs Circle is closed as construction is underway.  Detour signage is in place, and maps are located on the Road Work Advisory page.  The neighboring businesses will remain open during construction, and we know they will appreciate your continued patronage during this construction time.

The streetscape project along Roswell Road continues with lane closures taking place primarily at night between Cliftwood to Hammond Drive.

Nighttime and weekend lane closures are planned by the Georgia Department of Transportation as they install roundabouts at Riverside Drive and I-285.

NEIGHBORHOOD STORM DRAIN MARKING PROGRAM
You can help the City prevent storm water pollution by participating in the Sandy Springs Storm Drain Marking Program. Storm Drain markers are small, colorful signs attached to the top of storm drains. They help educate and remind people that anything dumped into the storm drains will flow straight into our streams, creeks and rivers.  The City will provide a neighborhood with all of the materials needed to mark the neighborhood's storm drain; we need your help in securing the markers onto the storm drains.  For information regarding how you can volunteer to label the drains in your neighborhood, please contact Keep North Fulton Beautiful at 770-551-7766. 
STAND UP FOR THE HOOCH
Don't miss the 5th annual Stand Up For The Hooch -paddle board event Sunday, June 5 from 8 a.m. from 12:30 p.m. at Morgan Falls Overlook Park.  F irst time paddlers are  encouraged to participate, and experts will have a chance to take home cash prizes!  This year's race will have two courses: a 2-Mile Race and a 6-Mile Race. All participants will receive race t-shirts, lunch tickets, and access to SweetWater beverages at the after party, located at High Country Outfitters in Buckhead! THERE'S STILL TIME TO REGISTER FOR SUMMER CAMPS AND PROGRAMS
It's planning time for summer activities for the kids.  Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks has a wide array of full-day camps and sports programs to fit almost every interest, including art-science camps, Claymation and anime/cartooning camps, and musical theater and Rock and Roll camps. New this year is a Nature Discovery Camp at our newest park, Lost Corner Preserve. To register for a program, visit registration.sandyspringsga.gov. First time users will need to create a family account - click the Sign-in button to begin the process.
BECOME A VOLUNTEER AT CAC
Become a volunteer at CAC and help our neighbors in need in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody! The Community Assistance Center (CAC) is a volunteer-driven nonprofit, providing services to neighbors by neighbors. Volunteers are needed to price clothing for the Thrift Boutique, sort donations, work in the food pantry, staff the reception desk and serve as client interviewers, Spanish speakers needed.  Contact Debbie at volunteer@ourcac.org.
KEEP SANDY SPRINGS BEAUTIFUL TO HOST BULKY TRASH DAY
Old Stove If your spring cleaning and/or home renovations this year Includes getting rid of furniture, carpet and rugs and other bulky items, mark your calendar for the annual Sandy Springs Bulky Trash Day on Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sandy Springs Recycling Center at 470 Morgan Falls Road.
Items accepted include:
  • Broken, unusable furniture
  • Carpet and rugs
  • Household construction and demolition materials such as sheet rock, window glass, lumber, wood, old cabinets, doors and residential remodeling debris
  • Mattresses
  • Scrap metal or metal items (will be recycled)
  • Stoves/washers/dryers (will be recycled)
Please do NOT bring:
  • Paint
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Fluids including motor oil and anti-freeze
  • Household garbage
  • Tires
  • Concrete, bricks, rock, dirt, sand or cross ties
  • Yard waste (this can be picked up by your private waste hauler)

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT AT THE CITY'S FIRST LANTERN PARADE!
Mark your calendar for the City's first Lantern Parade on June 18 at Morgan Falls Park. The "Take It To The River" parade will begin at North Springs United Methodist Church at 9 p.m. and will wind down to Morgan Falls Park where the Morgan Falls dam is located. After the parade, the event's shuttle sponsor, Atlanta Movie Tours, Inc. will drive participants back to the starting point. Chantelle Rytter, creator of the very successful Beltline, Grant Park and Decatur Lantern Parades, is our production captain, and her floating alligator, Alice, will be gliding through the Chattahoochee River as part of the festivities. Don't have a lantern? Stay tuned for updates on Lantern Workshops where you can learn to create your own illuminated masterpiece. 
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA RETURNS

STARS AND STRIPES - FIREWORKS AT THE CONCOURSE

On  Sunday, July 3, 2015,  head to the Concourse Corporate Center lawn for the 
annual fireworks display, Stars and Stripes! The band Shiloh, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to pack a snack, bring a blanket, and enjoy an evening under the stars as fireworks illuminate the sky above the iconic King and Queen buildings. Pets, tents, outdoor cooking and personal-use sparklers are not permitted.

HERITAGE SANDY SPRINGS 
CONCERTS BY THE SPRINGS
Concerts by the Springs is back and in full swing for its 20th season!   Held one Sunday evening each month, through September, the outdoor concert series is free and open to the public and has become a celebrated community tradition each summer. Concerts are held from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. and are located at Heritage Green on The Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn, 6110 Blue Stone Road. Convoy (classic rock tribute)  will take the stage bringing their version of nostalgia to the crowd on Sunday, June 12.   Concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to picnic with family and friends. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers are welcomed; no outside tables permitted. Smoking is prohibited. AMERICAN GIRL® SUMMER CAMP

Heritage Sandy Springs is excited to announce its first ever American Girl® Summer Camp! The week-long camp offers participants ages 5-10 an immersive, interactive, and fun way to learn about American history. Each day will highlight a different American Girl® and feature activities related to the time period in which she lived. The camp will be held June 6-10, June 13-17, and July 11-15 at the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum, 6075 Sandy Springs Circle. Deadline for registration is June 3, 2016. Heritage Sandy Springs Heritage Sandy Springs announced a new educational program for adults, to be held on Tuesday evenings in June from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Titles @ Twilight promotes local authors, whose stories of history and the South represent a variety of perspectives from Sherman's March to the Sea to the history of baseball. Titles @ Twilight is free to attend and will take place in the Garden Room at the Williams-Payne House, 6075 Sandy Springs Circle.

MAKE THE FARMERS MARKET A SATURDAY STOP
The Heritage Sandy Springs Farmers Market is the place to be on Saturday mornings! Plan to head to Century Springs East at 6100 Lake Forrest Drive to catch up with friends and neighbors and support local farmers and artists. The  Farmers Market will run every Saturday through October 29, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Mini-markets with shortened hours are planned for November and December, weather permitting. Each Saturday market features live music and nearly 50 vendors offering an abundance of fresh, local produce, along with pasture-raised meat and pork products, farm fresh eggs and dairy products, and a wide variety of prepared foods.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR MOVIES BY MOONLIGHT
As you plan your summer calendar and beyond, don't forget to pencil in Movies by Moonlight! Described as the largest neighborhood block party, this year's dates include: Fridays, August 26, September 9 and September 30 and will take place at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, Activities Center Lawn, 86 Mount Vernon Highway and Sandy Spring Circle.  Food and activities begin at 6 p.m. and the movies are shown at dark. WE CELEBRATE NEW BUSINESSES, NEW LOCATIONS AND ANNIVERSARIES 
RIBBON CUTTING AT BAGEL BOYS 
Members of the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber of Commerce welcomed Bagel Boys Cafe with a ribbon cutting at their new location at 6355 Peachtree Dunwoody Road (across from Costco). The bagels are made from scratch and baked daily in-store. Their hours are 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 7 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Sundays.
