Honduran Independence Day

We are so proud of the youth who participated in the parade celebrating Honduras' national Independence Day. Children of all ages performed a variety of talents, including dances while dressed in traditional Honduran garb, cadences with the drum line, and marches presenting our honor roll and graduating students. The youth practiced for several weeks leading up to the big day, dedicating much time and effort into perfecting their presentations, with the leadership of several teachers and staff members. Children cheered enthusiastically as they watched the parade be led all through Emmanuel. The celebration ended with a formal presentation in front of our main office to display all of the youth's hard work.
Vocational Training
High school youth in "Tercer Curso" (equivalent to American 9th grade,) are currently involved in our vocational program, where they learn specific skills to help prepare them for the future as they become young adults. All 9th grade students participate in Basic Windows Operator training for the first half of the school year. Youth then select either Computer Repair or Basic Seamstress as their field of training for the second half of the year. The duration of the program is 500 hours, at the end of which students are tested to receive a nationally recognized certification that will allow them to pursue jobs in their designated field. We hope to expand this program in the future to have multiple levels of training, as well as additional subjects. Future possibilities may include classes in woodworking, food service, mechanics, and electrical work.
Newlyweds Gabe and Brandy
Congratulations to our newlyweds, Gabe and Brandy Barrett, who were married on September 6th in Alabama. Brandy has been at Emmanuel for the past four years, caring for our smallest children and young mothers in the Infant House. We are excited to welcome Gabe to the Emmanuel family as a new staff member. He will be involved with our teenagers in the Big Boys' Yard, as well as working in the greenhouse on the farm.

Children's Day Celebration
Emmanuel was especially blessed this year by some local politicians who helped us celebrate the national holiday, "Dia Del Nio" (Children's day.) Our small- and medium- boys and girls houses had a party in the gym, complete with piatas, clowns, cotton candy, games, and of course, cake! The children had so much fun, leaving with painted faces, special gifts, and full stomachs! We are thankful that the Lord continues to provide the needed people and resources to do special activities with our children, reminding them that they are precious to and greatly loved by our Heavenly Father.
