Introductory Message from Community Impact Director, Ashley Wood
Ashley Wood

River Cities United Way Lake Havasu Office is seeking out new businesses to help show their support for the Kid's Bright and Healthy program. During the years this program has supported students with dental care, x-rays, glasses, classroom fees, hygiene items, bunk beds for foster care, clothing and shoes. The funds that support these instances of assistance come directly from private donations, an annual fundraiser, and the coin boxes we have

throughout our community. The coin boxes alone provided $592.00 to help those in need in 2014. Fifteen students in 2014 were helped due to the current coin boxes located at Horizon Community Bank, Interagency, Lake Havasu Marina, Mohave State Bank, Peggy's Sunrise Caf, Southside Laundromat and Sundance Gas Station.  Thank you! If you have a business that you feel would be a great partner to make a difference in a child's life for 2015 please contact Ashley Wood at (928) 855- 6333 to get your coin box today.

IMPACT STORY:   St. Mary's Food Bank (Lake Havasu, AZ.)

A young Lake Havasu City man came in for a meal, but he received much more than food.

The man, down and depressed, recently went to a community soup kitchen at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic, an agency that receives food from St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance. He had tried to commit suicide. His parents told him he was worthless because he didn't have a job and wasn't doing anything with his life. "They'd kicked him out and he was living in a car outside of his girlfriend's house," said Roberta Watkins, Our Lady of the Lake program supervisor.

Watkins suggested he apply at a local plastics company that often hires because the work is physically hard and retaining employees is a challenge. She thought he looked young enough to handle the job. He took her advice and was hired.

He came back to the soup kitchen to visit a few months later with his newborn baby and girlfriend. And he still returns occasionally to say hello to Watkins. He's married now and the family lives with his mother-in-law. In the end, the man found more than meal. He found hope.

A Small Changes Makes A Big Difference

Employee Campaign Coordinators have proven to be one of the biggest assets for our 2014-2015 workplace campaigns. We need your help as volunteers to advocate to the community about the lives changed daily by the assistance provided through River Cities United Way and our Partner Agencies. Although Dillard's employees have donated for more than 8 years in Lake Havasu City, they strived for 100% participation and were able to increase their workplace giving contribution by close to $7,000 over the year prior.

Joining Dillard's on the list of increased giving by employees for the 2014-2015 campaign year so far is Albertson's, Chase Bank, Chrysler Proving Grounds, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, EPCOR Water, Horizon Community Bank, Havasu Regional Medical Center, Interagency, Kingman Regional Medical Center, Sterilite, Mohave State Bank, Mohave Valley Elementary School District, NFP Insurance, Pacific Gas & Electric, Sterilite, Suddenlink, True Value Distribution Center, UPS, Harley Davidson, and UnitedHealth Group.
