TSPN's Memphis/Shelby County Region cordially invites you to "Suicide and Trauma", a special presentation set for 9:00-11:45 AM on Tuesday, September 16. This event will be hosted by Hope Church, located at 8500 Walnut Grove Road in Cordova, and held in its chapel.
This free event will help healthcare providers, mental health workers, and the general public respond to the problem of suicide and emotional trauma in their communities. It is also intended as an observance of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in the state of Tennessee.
Local city and county mayors have been invited to present Suicide Prevention Awareness Month proclamations. The winner of this year's Regional Suicide Prevention Award will also be announced. Guest speakers will include Debbie Jones, a survivor of suicide and the founder of the Dennis H. Jones Living Well Network, and Vervie Moses, a suicide attempt survivor and a veteran.
Michael LaBonte, Executive Director of the Memphis Crisis Center will demonstrate 1) how to recognize and respond effectively to a suicide crisis and 2) how to link those at risk to community resources and professional care. Kelli H. Davis of the Transformation Center will talk about the clinical definitions of trauma and PTSD, as well as the difference between processed and unprocessed trauma. She will discuss abreactions and secondary gains to unprocessed traumas and explain the value of emotional resourcing in trauma response.
The event includes a continental breakfast. 2.5 contact hours are available for participants who stay for the entire event, with CEUs pending.
We'd like to thank all our sponsors who are helping to make this event possible:
