Early Voting for the 2016 Runoff Has Begun!
Please support HOME-PAC endorsed candidates Smith & Bailes
vote button Early voting for the 2016 Republican & Democratic Primary Election Runoff is underway and runs through May 20 with the Primary Runoff Election Day on May 24. Voter turnout for the runoff will be small and electing the most qualified, pro-housing candidates for office is vital to the homebuilding industry and protecting housing affordability and consumer choices, so please get out to vote!

Of particular importance, HOME-PAC is supporting incumbent State Representative Wayne Smith of Baytown for House District 128 which covers parts of Baytown, Pasadena, La Porte, Deer Park, Crosby and Morgan's Point. Chairman Smith is a Licensed Professional Engineer, a Registered Public Land Surveyor and has always been a friend to our industry in the state legislature.

In addition, please support Earnest Bailes who is running to replace retiring Appropriations Chairman John Otto in House District 18 which covers Liberty, San Jacinto and Walker counties. Earnest is endorsed by the Texas Association of Realtors, Texas Oil and Gas Association (TXOGA) and the Texas Association of Business.

During early voting, you can vote at any early voting location, but on Election Day, you must vote at the precinct that you are assigned, and it may not be your regular precinct location. More information on early voting and your precinct

If you would like to get more information or are interested in becoming involved with HOME-PAC, please email Bradley Pepper or call (281) 664-1430.

OSHA Announces New Recordkeeping Rule Regs
osha rules The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on Wednesday, May 11, announced it has issued its final electronic recordkeeping rule. The rule requires covered industries, including construction, that are employers with 250 or more employees to electronically submit their 300, 300A and 301 forms to OSHA on an annual basis. Construction industry employers that have between 20 and 249 employees are only required to electronically submit their 300A annual summary forms.

This final rule becomes effective on Jan. 1, 2017, except for sections 1904.35 (employee involvement) and 1904.36 (prohibition against discrimination/retaliation), which become effective on Aug. 10, 2016. For more information, read the NAHB's position on the rule.

Stephen McNiel Named to the Remodeling Big50 List for 2016
stephen mcneil Congratulations to GHBA member Stephen McNiel, Creative Property Restoration, for being named to the Remodeling Big50 list! Read Stephen's story

E
very year since 1986, Remodeling has searched for 50 remodelers at the top of their field. Winners embody some of the most innovative strategies to survive and flourish in a changing market.

Half of the companies featured on this year's list are less than a decade old. These remodelers were either just starting out when the market crashed or saw opportunity among the volatility. Others have continued to innovate over the years, with one winner celebrating its 50th anniversary. Securing a spot on the Big50 isn't all about size or volume. This year, we're featuring eight companies with revenue under $1 million and three with revenue above $10 million. But each featured company is doing something right, from raising the bar for customer service to embracing pioneering technology. Read on to meet each one of our winners, learn their stories, and hopefully find a steal-able idea or two. Full article
