The Apple Tree Project
That's right, it's time again!
Registrations are underway for our annual back-to-school initiative. Each year, with the help of our community business partners and individuals like you, IFM is able to provide back-to-school assistance to 1,500 students attending school in Denton ISD.

dis advantaged.

Your support of the Apple Tree Project helps reduce the financial hardship on families who qualify by providing their children with the essential items needed to start the school year on a competitive level with their peers. Each student in the program receives a new backpack, a full set of grade appropriate school supplies, two sets of new school clothes and a shoe store gift card.

How you can help
  •  HOST an Apple Tree at your organization or business.
  •  ADOPT an apple (child) from a Host Site and purchase two sets of  clothing.
  •  VOLUNTEER to sort clothing or help on Distribution Day.
  •  DONATIONS are tax deductible.

One client's story
C.L., a 52 year old single female client, fell ill very suddenly and was soon ordered by her doctor to stop working. She underwent thyroid surgery the following month and returned to work three weeks later. Upon returning to work, she quickly became ill again, and at that time was diagnosed with pneumonia resulting from her weakened immune system.

C.L. had previously been financially stable, but her time away from work had put her in jeopardy of being evicted from her apartment. Thankfully, C.L. reached out to us and we were able to help her with her rent payment for February. After receiving assistance, C.L. is now recovered, back at work and able to meet her financial obligations.

IFM  Spotlight
" Hi, I'm Rebecca Dake , the new Community Outreach VISTA. I joined Americorps VISTA after  raising my two kids into their early grade school years. I studied Journalism at Truman State University, and then went on to a communications internship in the Missouri governor's office and a public relations position for the state. I enjoy getting the word out about nonprofits and government   organizations that really help people through my writing, videos and community/media connections. But, enough about me. I want to hear from YOU about how you became connected with IFM."

Rebecca would love to hear your story.

It Just Makes Dollars & Cents
Financial capability
Financial capability is the knowledge and skills you use every day when you pay a bill or when you go to work .  As we have read, we cannot always know what's around the next corner in life. Many skills are needed to navigate the  financial world we live in. But, the basics always have to come first.

A simple budget is the first place to start . Once you have established what's coming in and what is going out, you can begin to plan for other life events. Savings, for all those unforeseen events in life, are mandatory in today's world.

There are many simple ways
you can accomplish this. My bank allows me to put a dollar aside, automatically, every time I make a purchase.

Saving also means making  sound financial decisions: Can I afford this right now? Will this purchase put my family  or me in jeopardy?

Getting on the road to financial security will improve not just the way you see your money being spent, but how it actually gets spent.

At IFM we are able to provide the support our clients need to reach their financial goals through our case management and financial coaching programs . We are able to equip them with the tools they need to make educated, conscious choices that will help them be successful in moving towards a more stable and self-sufficient financial future.

Cassidy Adams is one of our many new volunteers. Cassidy currently studies psychology at UNT and has had some great experiences with Girl Scouts of America, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and many others. Get ready to break out the white and green because Cassidy is also on the UNT Cross-Country Team!

Another great new volunteer is Brooke Derebe. Brooke is currently studying both biology and chemistry at UNT. This young woman not only has brains, but also a heart for philanthropy in her community. Brooke loves the satisfaction that volunteering can bring.

New volunteer Alison McMahon  is amazing and has a background in human resources. She spends her free-time gardening and her weekends at her ranch. She's also a black belt in martial arts, so watch out!
