The Word Is God

It is my fervent hope that this communication finds you well, dear readers.  We are truly blessed and grateful for your readership.

This past Sunday, Rev. Sandra Weisner presented an opportunity for us to express the "I AM," the Holy Spirit of the Christ within us.  It was a wonderful reminder that we are, in the Absolute Reality, spiritual beings... beings with great power.

This leads to our fifth power: Power.  We are exploring the Twelve Powers, both in these articles and during our Wednesday evening MidWeek Renewal services, tonight through July 20.  I will offer this quote from Charles Fillmore, Unity's co-founder:

"The power center in the throat controls all the vibratory energies of the organism.  It is the open door between the formless and the formed worlds of vibrations pertaining to the expression of sound.  Every word that goes forth receives its specific character from the power faculty."

As I wrote last week, Power is represented by the Apostle Philip.  In the Gospels, Philip is mentioned most prominently in the Gospel of John.  Often, he is paired with Bartholomew (also called Nathanael), who represents the power of Imagination...

Now, I cannot overstate how important the Power of the spoken word is in all of this.   Last Sunday, Rev. Sandra called to our awareness the Truth that we must be mindful of the "I AM" statements we make.  Thoughts have substance and form.  We give power to our thoughts through our words, and it is through this power of Power that we have the control over our thoughts, feelings, words, and behaviors.  We'll explore this more next week.

Join us this Sunday at Unity of Columbus; our guest minister is Rev. Linda Poole Kennedy, of Inspirational Gatherings.  Our guest musician will be our beloved Jasianna Chaley.

We look forward to seeing you!

MidWeek Renewal TONIGHT!

REfresh.

REnew.

REcharge.

REjoice!

We at Unity of Columbus are pleased to announce that we are offering Unity spiritual programming on Wednesday evenings once again.

Meditation:  6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Discussion Group: 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Our first series of discussions are about a core Unity teaching, The Twelve Powers.

Dear friends, as spiritual beings, the Divine Pattern in you endows you with capabilities far greater than you know.  This potential is intrinsic to your very being.  Charles Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, believed that there are Twelve aspects of our minds that, when developed, expressed, and consciously applied, will raise our lev
12 powers el of awareness and Life experience.  Over the coming weeks, we will explore each of these "Twelve Powers" in detail.

This week: JUDGMENT.

We highly recommend you be a part of this opport
u nity to gain a deeper understanding of our Unity philosophy, and of your Higher Self.

Join Prayer Chaplain Daryn Wells for this twelve-week Spring/Summer Meditation and discussion series, from May 4 through July 20, 2016.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Poetry Corner
"The Word"
by Ella Wheeler Wilcox, 1911

Oh, a word is a gem, or a stone, or a song,
    Or a flame, or a two-edged sword;
Or a rose in bloom, or a sweet perfume,
Or a drop of gall, is a word.

You may choose your word like a connoisseur,
And polish it up with art,
But the word that sways, and stirs, and stays,
Is the word that comes from the heart.

You may work on your word a thousand weeks,
But it will not glow like one
That all unsought, leaps forth white hot,
When the fountains of feeling run.

You may hammer away on the anvil of thought,
And fashion your word with care,
But unless you are stirred to the depths, that word
Shall die on the empty air.

For the word that comes from the brain alone,
    Alone to the brain will speed;
But the word that sways, and stirs, and stays,
Oh! That is the word men heed.
