Northfield Soccer Association & the Positive Coaching Alliance

Northfield Promise recognizes that children’s success means more than just academic achievement. Instead, young people need to be supported socially and emotionally – and the adults who interact with youth have an important role to play in ensuring this.

For those reasons, Northfield Promise is excited to highlight the Northfield Soccer Association for their work to bring the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) to Northfield. Read more

43%
of economically challenged Northfield students entering kindergarten last fall were at risk for academic difficulties in math, compared to 7% of their non-economically challenged peers.

In reading, 36% of economically disadvantaged incoming kindergarteners were at risk for academic difficulties, compared to 5% of their peers.

Northfield receives major grant
to support career pathways for Opportunity Youth
A number of Northfield Promise partners came together this fall and winter to work on a collaborative grant proposal to help young people facing significant risk factors in Northfield, Faribault, and Red Wing. The coalition learned recently that Youthprise (a Twin Cities foundation) awarded the project a 3-year grant totaling $579,000. Named Tri-City Bridges to the Future, the project will offer career pathways approaches for 85 youth ages 14-24 who are in foster care, involved in the juvenile justice system, homeless, or disconnected from school and work.
