It's Time to Get Technical!

What happens when over 450 colleagues gather in one place at one time to discuss all things aviation? Well, you'll just need to come down to Superstar Theater this morning and see for yourself! Today at the Tech Symposium we're exploring the world of big data, discussing current modernization strategy, and forecasting what's yet to come in 2025 and beyond.

We want to bring you content that you want to hear, so this year we've teamed up with Sli.do to make the Symposium more interactive!

Log on using your smart phone, tablet, or laptop to ask questions and participate in polls throughout the event. There's even a prioritization function so you can vote for the questions you most want answered!

But before we start the show, we've got a couple of quick reminders for you:
  • Registration is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Ocean Ballroom today.
  • Lunch will be served from 12:00 - 1:15 p.m. in Ocean Ballroom and Capriccio Restaurant. Save room for ice cream at 2:30. Thank you, Midwest!
  • Don't forget to bring your drink tickets when you attend the ATCA reception and peruse the Exhibit Hall in the Ocean Ballroom from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. this evening!
The Data's in the Details
The FAA Eyes Big Data Possibilities
By David Hughes, Federal Aviation Administration

Big data is expanding the impact of the FAA's NextGen initiative in a big way. As NextGen implementation continues to move forward, the agency is disseminating digital flight, aero-nautical and weather data, and collaborating with industry on ways to make use of the vast amounts of available information. The agency is also conducting research on new applications made possible by technological advances that increase the accessibility of FAA data. READ MORE.

Interested in learning more about how data influences our decision making within the NAS? Join moderator Natesh Manikoth, FAA chief scientific and technical advisor for National Airspace System software, at 10:30 a.m. in Superstar Theater.

Another Successful #TechTuesday!
Over 130 registrants took advantage of Tech Center Tuesday 2016.  Today and tomorrow we're featuring a snapshot of some of the things they learned.
ATCA President and CEO Pete Dumont welcomes Tech Center Tuesday participants.
TECH TALKS RECAP
ERAM Data Comm CHI Evaluation

The ability to adapt is everything for an air traffic controller. But how much is too much to  ask of a controller? Merging technology and human interaction is one of the major challenges in NextGen implementation and evolving Data Communications (DataComm) in an operational environment is one of the most critical pieces of the equation.
TECH TRACK RECAP
Air Traffic Laboratories

The William J. Hughes Technical Center is a world-class laboratory that performs research and development, testing and evaluation, and verification and validation for air transportation systems to make sure that the National Airspace System (NAS) meets air transportation capabilities now and in the future.

"The drone cage has been great from an outreach perspective - it helps recognize the potential of this technology. It's been neat to work with my alma mater on this."
-   Cliff Johnson, FAA and graduate of Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering
