GODSPELL & Spaghetti Dinner

A virgin will have a baby boy, and he will be called
Immanuel, which means "God with us."
                                                       ~from Matthew 1

Greetings Friends!

T his Sunday is the BIG SING & RING! This has been a tradition at Hosanna- that one Sunday in May the Hosanna Choir (and now also the Bell Choir) lead worship. This year the featured "SING" is a GODSPELL Medley- and so I thought it fitting to write about GODSPELL in preparation for Sunday.

GODSPELL was created in 1969 at Carnegie-Mellon University as a directing project for John-Michael Tebelak, who was in the theater department there but also had thoughts of becoming an Episcopal minister. The story goes that he had recently attended an Easter service in Pittsburgh and was struck by the lack of joy and celebration in the service as well as by the personal hostility he felt from some of his fellow churchgoers because of his youth and long hair. The original production was a collection of improvised scenes based loosely on the gospel according to St. Matthew and music based on traditional hymns created and directed by John-Michael Tebelak. In 1971 Stephen Schwartz (music and lyric writer) had his first encounter with GODSPELL being asked by 2 producers who were interested in giving the show a commercial production at an off-Broadway theater. GODSPELL finds humor in the Gospels and in the responses of human beings to them. When Stephen Schwartz was asked if this project changed his perception of Jesus he replied: "Basically, as I learned from GODSPELL, Jesus said two major things: 'Always treat others as you would have them treat you' and 'Anything you do for one of your fellow men, however humble, you do for me.'"

So that's the message for Sunday. Come and hear it in song!! Invite a friend to share in the GOOD NEWS- GOSPEL- GODSPELL!! The bells will be playing two new pieces that were purchased with funds donated in memory of Richard (Dick) Brandt. This is sure to be a day of CELEBRATION and JOY!!

Following worship the celebration will continue with a Lakes Area FMSC MobilePack Celebration and Spaghetti Dinner as we remember 2016 and learn where our packed food was shipped-and then turn our heads and hearts and hands to 2017 and a new MobilePack adventure!

Special THANKS to Rob Anderson, Charlie Ollmann and Mary Gookins for the worship arrangements- and Phyllis Lindberg- accompanist and all the singers and ringers!!

Special THANKS to Jen Bergan and Gene Janicke- the FMSC Spaghetti Dinner leads!

See you in Church!

Spotlight on the
Personnel Committee
Who we are:
As directed by our Constitution,  the Personnel Committee (PC)  is comprised of the current council president, the senior pastor, and six members appointed jointly by the president and the pastor. Term of office is two years, with three members to be appointed each successive year.

Current Members:
Under appointment by Pastor Linda and Tom Croce, Council President: Buck Carlson, Gene Janicke, Rachel Kaup, Kelly Monson, Max DeRaad and Karen Christensen.

Why we exist:
The Personnel Committee supports the pastor, council and staff regarding HR related issues, benefits, staffing, policies and procedures

What are we working on:
Past committee members recently finished developing a current employee handbook for Hosanna staff. PC members may meet with staff surrounding any performance issues or employee concerns and may be present during Annual Performance reviews each October.  Currently, the PC is meeting to evaluate our current staffing and potential future needs as our church grows. As directed by council and the congregation during the annual meeting in January, the council is also in discussion about how to use the additional funds that were budgeted to staffing, to ensure that we are appropriately and equitably staffed and fairly compensating our employees.

How you can meet with us:
Currently, PC has been meeting a t 6:30 am, due to availability of the committee members.  PC meetings are closed, but we would like to invite you to hear updates and ask any questions you have. Please join us along with council o n July 1 for a Personnel Committee roundtable, immediately following the Lakeside service.

Living Your Strengths Workshops
Wed. June 1, 8 and 15  at 7:00 pm
at Hosanna
Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day? Do you bring your best to your relationships, your community, your work and your church? Chances are, you don't. All too often, our natural talents go untapped. From the cradle to the cubicle, we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths.

Living Your Strengths is a process that helps you to identify, affirm and serve from your strengths. It includes the Clifton StrengthsFinder® assessment and 3 workshops designed to bring us together to explore our strengths and learn about the incredible power of our community when we serve God from our strengths. Pastor Linda is the facilitator.
      DATES: June 1, 8, and 15.
      Time: 7:00 p.m.
Cost $20- (includes the StrengthsFinder Assessment)
