plans to give you a hope and a future"
Raising Godly leaders for a country in need
April 2016

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

This is one of the newest members of my family at the orphanage, and what a blessing she is. Eunice just turned three years old on April 11th and she is always happy and singing. When we pray she also wants to pray. When we
sing she is singing and wants to dance. She is almost always smiling.
Eunice' father passed away a few years ago, when she was just coming to 1 year. He had the AIDS virus and her mother is now very sick and can no longer take care of the children. Eunice and her 5- year-old brother, Enoch, have come to live with us. Enoch is a sweetie. He is in preschool at our
Genesis School. He loves to play and is also most often happy. He had a few health issues but is getting much better now.

We brought Morgan and Michelle into the orphanage early this year as well. Michelle is six years old and Morgan is 11. They attend Kindergarten and 5th grade at Genesis. Their story is similar to that of Eunice and Enoch. Their father died the week before Christmas. The place where they had rented threw them out because their mother could not pay the rent. They spent Christmas Eve and Christmas day on the streets in Mbale looking for food and a place to sleep. They went hungry as they found nothing. The Pastor of the Mbale Presbyterian Church brought them to my home and asked if I could help. Their father died of AIDS and the mother is sick and has no income. She has gone to be cared for by her sister. Their father use to evangelize with us sometimes. Both children are happy to be with us and we are happy to have them.

Five-year-old Catherine recently joined Mama Phyllis' orphanage home and has begun attending preschool at Genesis. Her parents have physical and mental disabilities and struggled to properly care for her.

As our school is growing and our second 4-classroom building has been completed and filled up we find that we are already looking at the need of the third building. We are currently at 181 students and all classes are full. We find that we need to get the dining hall going as well.
We want to say thank you to all of you who support us in prayers, financially or both. You are part of us and you make it possible to make the difference. We ask for your continued financial support and prayers. You all mean a lot to me and the children and staff here in Uganda. I know that God is going to bless you for making the difference.

Below is a picture of me and some of my kids in the house with my new Denver Bronco jersey signed by Von Miller that a team brought as a gift for me! This is a special gift and I wanted to share the moment with you all.

In September I will (if the Lord wills) be in the States and see some of you. By this time the book I have been working on will be published and ready for anyone who would like a copy. I hope you will enjoy reading it as you are all a part of it. Thanks so much and God bless you,     Katherine

Many of the Ugandan schools provide daily breaks to allow children to go home for lunch. Sadly, this can mean no lunch for many children from impoverished families. Some will climb mango trees when the fruit is in season.   Many schools that provide lunch are extremely nutritionally limited. At our Genesis School we strive to provide each child with a daily nutrient-rich breakfast and lunch.

We have begun a new giving opportunity to help sustain this vital need to provide an optimal learning environment for these children. The average school lunch in America costs approximately $2.30 . A donation of this size will provide a healthy breakfast and lunch to 5 Genesis children.

Can you help us spread the word?
Go to

and check out Andrew's story. Then, make a donation and, like the video suggests, click a quick pic of yourself with an empty plate to share on your favorite social media and encourage your friends to give. Please include #donateaplate .    Challenge your kids, school, youth group, Bible study, Sunday school class, church, scout group and others to get involved.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Irene's parents both died while she was young and she was passed among family members for many years. She managed to attend a vocational cooking course in order to provide for herself as a young adult. She prayed for help and God lead her to Katherine through a friend at church, Daphyne, the sewing manager at our Craft Center. Katherine hired Irene to cook and help with the children in her home.

After several years Katherine recognized Irene's skills in helping the children with their school work and offered to send Irene to the Rafiki School to receive training in their curriculum which we use at Genesis. Irene was their top achieving student and she has now gone on to Uganda Christian University to become a teacher for Genesis School. She loves the Lord and loves children and says she is going to enjoy her new life as a teacher. We would like to help Irene and Genesis out by getting her a sponsor. Please contact Cindy at homeoffice@hineskids.org or
303-847-9522 if you would like to
sponsor Irene for $60 a month. Please hold her up in prayer as she continues her studies.
