BETH REESE FEATURED IN CFO MAGAZINE 
In the May issue of CFO Magazine , Beth Reese, Executive Vice President and CFO of AGL Resources, was recognized as a champion of diversity-related programs at Nicor Gas utility in Illinois.

In 2012, Beth became the first female president of Nicor Gas and the first chair of Nicor Gas' LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, Acceptance, Diversity) Council.

In this capacity, Beth has come to appreciate the importance of nurturing women at the earliest ages. "We need to get girls age eight and nine interested in math and the other STEM subjects," said Beth Reese. Read more...

SUSAN LICHTENSTEIN OP-ED ON BALANCE Susan Lichtenstein
Susan Lichtenstein, Of Counsel at Riley Safer Holmes & Cancila LLP, wrote an op-ed in the Huffington Post this past week on balance. In the piece, Susan shared her experiences on how she integrates a balance between family and work.

THE NATIONAL PUBLIC HOUSING MUSEUM BRINGS CONSCIENCE TO LIGHT 
Sunny Fischer, board chairwoman of the National Public Housing Museum, and Michelle Boone, commissioner of the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, were featured in a Chicago Tribune article on the museum's construction and progress.

"In essence, this is a museum about home and what home means to people," said Sunny Fischer.
 
"It's really a great way to not just learn the history of the city but what that city meant to people," said Michelle Boone. "Even though it can be a painful reminder, I find it to also be a monument to understanding the resiliency of people." Read more...

LAURA WASHINGTON ON THE INNOVATION OF UBER AND LYFT
Laura Washington, columnist and political analyst for the Chicago Sun-Times and ABC7-Chicago, wrote an op-ed for the Chicago Sun-Times on the ride-sharing revolution. "Several times a week, Uber drivers cheerfully take me to areas where taxis refuse to roll. I trust Uber to get my octogenarian mother to her South Side home, safe and sound," said Laura Washington. UNITED AIRLINES CELEBRATES WITH GIFT DELIVERY PROGRAM
United Airlines ( Linda Jojo) launched "Celebrate," a new on-board gift delivery program that allows a gift to be pre-ordered and then presented to a passenger on a United international flight departing from a United States gateway. The gifts can be chosen from among a select group of items designated by a small airplane icon on the carrier's dutyfreeonboard.com website. Read more...
ELIZABETH BRACKETT REPORTS ON SAVING CORAL REEFS
Elizabeth Brackett recently reported on the global fight to save coral reefs. Three major institutions in Chicago that are joining the fight include, Northwestern University ( Sally Blount, Andrea Dunaif, Janice Eberly, Vicky Kalogera and Marilyn McCoy), the Shedd Aquarium (Joyce Simon), and the Field Museum are now actively engaged in the fight. DEPUTY MAYOR AND CHIEF NEIGHBORHOOD OFFICER
Andrea Zopp has been named Deputy Mayor and Chief Neighborhood Officer by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The Emanuel administration said Andrea will have a wide range of responsibilities on creating growth at small businesses, attracting large companies and manufacturers to the city, improving roads and bridges, adding more parks and fighting crime. VICKY KALOGERA AWARDS 
Vicky Kalogera, the Erastus O. Haven Professor of Physics and Astronomy in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and director of Northwestern's Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics, is among a group a committee members at Northwestern that will be awarded with two significant honors: the $3 million Special Breakthrough Prize, recognizing extraordinary scientific achievement, and the 2016 Gruber Foundation Cosmology Prize, recognizing a discovery leading to fundamental advances in understanding the universe. Vicky is an LSC member for more than 15 years and is one of LIGO's most senior astrophysicists and led the LSC's astrophysics effort as the LIGO editor of the paper about the discovery's astrophysical implications. WENDY FREEDMAN HONORED AT WOMEN IN SPACE SCIENCE AWARD CELEBRATION
On May 12, 2016, Wendy L. Freedman was honored with the 2016 Women in Space Science (WISS) Award by the Women's Board of the Adler Planetarium. The annual Women in Space Science Award recognizes women who have made significant contributions to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with the goal of inspiring young women to pursue careers in these disciplines. The celebration features a luncheon reception for event attendees and a keynote presentation given by the honoree.

DORRI MCWHORTER AWARDS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS  
Dorri McWhorter, CEO of YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, received the Visionary Award from NAWBO Chicago recognizing her leadership in the YWCA's support of entrepreneurs and small business owners. For years, the YWCA has been providing support services and personalized coaching to entrepreneurs, particularly on the south side of Chicago. In 2015, the YWCA formalized its offerings by launching Business & Entrepreneurship Services. Partnering with the Women's Business Development Center and Peoples Gas, the YWCA has facilitated three cohorts of "Plan for Profit," a small business training series focused on supporting entrepreneurs on the south and west sides of the city.

Dorri McWhorter also represented YWCA Metropolitan Chicago as the organization received the Non-Profit Organization of the Year Award from Fifth Third Bank. The award recognized the organization as stalwart champion of women's empowerment who is applying 21st Century innovation to the issues affecting women and families today.

R_BARC CTA STATION HONORED
The CTA Morgan Station, designed by Carol Ross Barney's r_barc, was honored at the 2015 ULI Chicago Vision Awards for smart transit solutions and neighborhood impact.
SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP BALL
Saint Xavier University ( Christine Wiseman) recently raised a grand total of $363,810 for student scholarships at its 31st Annual Pre sident's Scholarship Ball. More than 300 guests attended the delightful evening of dinner and dancing at the Hilton Chicago.  All proceeds from the Ball go to the Presidential Scholarship Program, which provides financial support to SXU's most deserving students. VANISHING BEAUTY EXHIBITION 
Art Institute Trustee and accomplished photographer Barbara Levy Kipper's sweeping collection of Asian jewelry and ritual objects in the Vanishing Beauty exhibition presents 300 exquisitely crafted works of art that present a panoramic view of the nomadic peoples and ethnic minorities of Asia whose cultures, history, and artistic production deeply inspired Barbara and will continue to inspire and educate future generations when they join the Art Institute's permanent collection. The exhibit will be open from June 19 to August 21. Read more...

ANNA RAPPAPORT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Anna Rappaport, president of Anna Rappaport Consulting, wrote two recently published essays that explore the diverse risks associated with defined contribution plan risk management strategies; decumulation strategies for retirement; and long-term care financing:
  • "Women and Retirement Risk: What Should Plan Sponsors, Planners, Software Developers and Product Developers Know?"
  • "Thinking about the Future of Retirement"
