Real Life Jerusalem Heros
Dear Friends,

Michelangelo believed that inside of every block of marble was an angel waiting for a sculptor to set it free.  Jerusalem Peacebuilders (JPB) believes that inside each of us is a hero awaiting self-discovery, empowerment and purpose.

"I learned more in 14 days at the JPB leadership program than in the previous 14 years of my life," recently wrote one newly awakened hero.  Every year, JPB transforms emerging Israeli, Palestinian and American leaders into tomorrow's peacemakers.

Our intensive, interfaith approach changes how the Israeli-Palestinian-American conflict is addressed.  It connects participants' inner-knowledge, compassion and courage with group skills, peer relationships and experiences.  The co-created outcome is a family of real life heroes who are committed to each other and to peace.

Jerusalem Peacebuilders' 2016 budget is $300,000 and includes:
  • Operating Summer Programs now to involve Syrian Refugee teens ($100,000)
  • Launching an Adult Peacebuilders program in Brattleboro ($50,000)
  • Expanding our School Initiatives in Jerusalem and the United States ($60,000)
  • Developing Educational Travel Opportunities for adults and teens ($35,000)
  • Improving program design and site facilities ($40,000)
During July and August, our intensive, co-ed, residential programs will equip over 75 adults and teens to discover within themselves the vision, character and qualities needed to lead their societies toward inclusive interfaith citizenship and democracy.

But we need you and other Michelangelos to join us. Because of international airfares, JPB's program costs are $3,000 per participant. Give the gift of leadership by investing in JPB's pioneering work. Be a sculptor, recognize angels, open the way to self-discovery and purpose, and you will empower real-life peace-heroes.

Donation cheques should be payable to Jerusalem Peacebuilders, and sent to 3300 Chimney Rock, Suite 301, Houston, TX 77056. Online giving is also possible by going to www.jerusalempeacebuilders.org. JPB Program Coordinator returns from Jerusalem
Practicing effective communication
skills  with YMCA teens
On May 5, JPB Program Coordinator, Jack Karn, returned home after a four-month visit to the Holy Land. In Jerusalem, Jack continued to hone his ministry and talents of being a peacebuilder, teacher, guide, and mentor for youth participating in JPB's two programs. His work involved our Jerusalem YMCA program, supporting field trips to the Negev Desert and Golan Heights, organizing community events, and leading workshops on identity and conflict. As part of our new Jerusalem Schools Initiative, Jack led the instruction of a successful leadership program at the Sts. Tarkmenchatz Armenian School in the Old City.

This ten session course covered interfaith understanding, morality, dignity and conflict resolution. Along with his work with these two programs, Jack developed a growing network of connections and partnerships with organizations like the Interfaith Encounter Association (IEA), Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (AIES), Combatants for Peace (CfP), EcoPeace, and The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study (YES) Program . Joining the St. George's Cathedral and College community, he attended weekly services.  Now back in Vermont, Jack is focusing on the organizing and preparing for the exciting summer programs that lay ahead.
