Month Day, 2015

Do you like the changes you've seen in the library and its services in recent months? How would you like to become a part of it? We have a vacancy on our board of trustees that we want to fill as quickly as possible. This is a volunteer elected position, and the trustees and selectmen will jointly appoint a lucky candidate to fill the seat until the next town election. At that point you may run (or not if we scare you away). The trustees meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month. They develop policies and work with the library director in managing operations. The application can be found here and must be submitted to Suzanne Kane at ([email protected]) by noon on November 25.

Here is the official posting.
Around Town:
Fall Special Town Meeting
Our Fall town meeting will be held on November 16th at at 7:00 pm in the Douglas High School auditorium on 33 Davis Street. Details on the meeting and what will be discussed can be found here. While Fall meetings are perceived by many as less exciting than those in the Spring, they are still an important part of our town's governance and very informative. Everyone's attendance is encouraged and greatly appreciated. In the words of George Bernard Shaw, "Democracy is a device that insures we shall be governed no better than we deserve."

Strategic Budget Committee
As many of your may have heard, the Strategic Budget Committee has been doing a lot of work and research recently. As you also may have heard, the town of Douglas is facing some impending budgetary crises of a fairly alarming magnitude. If you missed the public presentation, it can be viewed here. Part of the presentation is a recording of a meeting given to town department heads previously which can be more easily viewed here.

It is more important now than ever that townspeople become involved in the processes that steer the flow of resources, time, and attention. Every board and committee has the best interests of Douglas in mind. Their meetings are open to the public, and the schedules of those meetings as well as videos of ones past can be accessed here. Get involved today. The numbers may be intimidating, but we can fix this if we all work together as a community.
Community Electricity Aggregation
The town of Douglas is participating in a bulk purchasing program designed to mitigate the rising and volatile costs of electricity. More information on this program and how it works can be found here.

Kids driving you nuts?

Are you thinking there's got to be a better way? Join us at 7pm on Thursday, November 19th for a parenting discussion with Catherine Lynch: Life Coach and Parent Mentor. Catherine has worked with kids for 30 years through various avenues including Outward Bound, Ymca, Boy Scouts of America, and raised her own five kids. She knows kids, she knows parenting, and she has deep insights and solutions that you may not have tried yet. Discussion will center around issues you bring to the table, so bring your questions. Space is limited, so please register in advance by calling 508-476-2695 or emailing [email protected]. We hope there will be enough interest to make this a monthly program.

Are you a Dreamer?

Do you have dreams and wonder what they might mean? Or maybe you don't dream and want to break the dream drought? Join Catherine Lynch, student of internationally known author and storyteller Robert Moss on December 10th at 7pm as she guides participants through his "lightning dreamwork" process, designed to facilitate quick dream-sharing that results in helpful action and the use of the "if it were my dream" protocol, which encourages the understanding that the dreamer is always the final authority on his or her dream. Space is limited, so please register in advance by calling 508-476-2695 or emailing [email protected]. Again, we hope that this generates enough interest to become a monthly program
