The 2015-16 show season is over, and the new season begun. Regions are preparing for their own Regional awards ceremonies while preparations for the CFA Annual in Las Vegas are in full swing. That means plenty of news this month!
Award committees on both the Regional and National levels are asking for award sponsorships. Remember that this is a great way to express your congratulations and celebrate a favorite cat(s) wins AND it helps the programs as well.

Congratulations to all our Regional and National Award winners! The 2015-2016 show season is over and the new season is here.
I have been told that the end-of-season scoring went well this year. Thanks to all who helped make this such a success. That includes our Central Office staff, the IT Committee, and our Regional Directors.
I am hearing lots of great things about our upcoming Annual Meeting in Las Vegas. Central Office tells me they received 405 Delegate Forms by the deadline. The Southwest Region has plans for a great hospitality suite on Thursday night and our Central Office is coordinating an entertaining hospitality suite for Friday night. As has been the custom, there will be a light continental breakfast Friday morning and an afternoon snack. Lots to do in Las Vegas so come prepared to have a great time. The

to be presented to the delegates? Our clubs have put lots of thought into ways they think CFA can be improved so be sure to review them.
Even though the Annual is right around the corner, we are also in the planning stages for the CFA / Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Litter International Cat Show to be held next November. We have contracted with the same facility we used in Novi, Michigan in 2013. Debbie Kusy is the show manager. Clubs were recently emailed ballots to select a judge from their Region and the ballots are due back at the Central Office by next Friday, May 20
th. If your club did not receive a ballot, check with
Michelle Fergason . Once we have one judge from each of CFA's nine Regions, there will be a second ballot to select the remaining judges and all clubs will vote on those. We are seeking volunteers to take on many tasks associated with this show. If you can help, contact

Well the 2015/2016 Show Season is now one for the history books. The closing of the Show Season for C.O. went much better than last year. Results were posted two weeks sooner than last years were with shows scored days ahead of time compared to last years. It wasn't without bumps in the road, but as a team everyone at C.O. assisted one another in order to make this happen.

Your adventure awaits in Las Vegas! Although there are plenty of things to do in Las Vegas, we have some great things planned for you right at the Red Rock Casino. That is if you ever decide to leave your guest room. The hotel is beautiful and the guest rooms are delightful. Not to mention the outdoor pool area.
The Southwest region is hosting Thursday night's hospitality with dancing and singing and I've heard rumors there will be a guest appearance by a Las Vegas icon. CFA is the host for Friday night's hospitality and there will be a live band and Mystic Mona. Mona holds the special Psychic Arts license and hosts a weekly radio program, Psychic View so you don't want to miss having her peek into your future.
The casino floor is separate from the guest rooms and the meeting space and is surrounded by a wide variety of restaurants, from a quick fast food court to a buffet (of course!) to very elegant, upscale dining and everything in between. Just steps away from the hotel is a fabulous, outdoor shopping district called Downtown Summerlin which includes stores such as Macy's, Dillards, Old Navy, White House Black Market, and Sephora as well as dining and entertainment options.
There will be a raffle for a two night stay at the Red Rock for a future date. Sign up during Delegate Registration (1:30PM-5:30PM on Thursday, 7:30AM-8:30AM on Friday). The drawing for the winner will take place during the Annual Meeting. You do not have to be a delegate to enter the raffle.
Make your hotel reservations, order your dinner for the banquet, order your duplicate awards and then relax knowing it's all done and the only thing left is...your adventure in Las Vegas. See you all soon!

NW Minimums for 2016-2016 Season
|
As stated in the 2016-2017 Show Rules, the national awards for the 2016-2017 show season will again be divided into Regions 1-9, ID-China, and ID-Other. For cats/kittens scored for Regions 1-9 awards will be provided up to Top 25 Kittens, Championship, and Premiership. For cats/kittens scored in either the International Division - China or the rest of the International Division, the number of awards in each category is determined based on shows and counts from the previous show season. The minimum number of points required in the most recent show season are still applicable. Thus, if for example, 25 kittens in Regions 1-9 do not meet the minimum, awards will be made only to those who meet the minimum. The maximum number of wins to be awarded for the 2016-2017 are as follows:

There has been some confusion on the use of Temporary Registration Numbers (TRNs) for Bengal entries.
First - TRNs can NOT normally be issued for Bengal entries. That's because the show rules that define a Bengal as domestic require at least a five generation pedigree showing NO ALC cats at any point in that pedigree, while the TRN rules only require four. As such no Bengal can obtain a TRN via a pedigree, as no Entry clerk is qualified to complete a pedigree review and ascertain that all five generations are ALC free.
They CAN obtain a TRN utilizing CFA Registration numbers for both parents of the cat - but that is the only acceptable method for a Bengal to obtain a TRN. This only occurs with Bengals because that is the only breed currently in existence where only some of the cats of that breed are considered to be domestic and allowed in the show hall.
ALSO, Bengals need a registration number to enter Miscellaneous class. As stated above, this will normally be a permanent CFA registration number as the use of a TRN is very limited.

Many judges have commented that clubs often fail to send them a copy of the show flyer as required in the show rules. Central Office reports that few clubs send them a copy of the show flyer as required in the show rules. Central Office has been tasked with following up when clubs fail to submit the required flyer and for shows licensed under 90 days the show will not be licensed without the flyer.
5.05 - The show secretary must send a copy of the show flyer to the officiating judges.
5.07 - Upon show license approval for shows the show flyer/announcement shall be provided to the CFA Central Office within seven days of license approval for shows licensed 90 days or more out; under 90 days, it must be filed concurrent with the show license.

While I may have missed reporting to the newsletter this last couple of months, several things have been happening.
The first and the most important item, the year-end files have been sent out and it is still May. A substantial improvement over last season. If anything may have been missed please let us know immediately.
Secondly, CFA has contracted John Colilla as a temporary System Analyst to work on preparing programing specifications to be used by Computan to complete transitioning all programs still on old HP system. These tasks include but not limited to: Show Licensing and Scheduling, Club and Judges Modules, Breed Council Module , White pages, Cattery of Distinction and Scoring improvements.
John will also be tasked with documenting these processes, creating user documentation, and testing of completed work from Computan.
Finally, it is with regret that I report that Steve Thieler's current Assist Entry Clerk program is no longer functioning as it should. Activation codes cannot be issued and this will probably not be corrected soon. He is also not able to respond to Support Requests. There is a current work around that Dick Kallmayer or I can send to anyone desiring to continue to use this program. Contact information will soon be on CFA website under CFA Entry Clerk Software tab.
We are looking for a long term solution to the Entry Clerk Program and are currently getting quotes for replacement.
We continue with enhancements to current programs and moving old programs to the new system. Please feel free to communicate any problems or errors directly to The Central Office staff so they can be dealt with quickly and efficiently.

An important Planned Giving (tax) tip to make notes of for May -
Life insurance (whole life or term) is an often overlooked way to make charitable gifts. A gift of life insurance can be as simple as designating the charity as beneficiary or contingent beneficiary. Life insurance proceeds can go to the charity directly without probate, court costs, legal fees or unnecessary delays. The full benefit will go to the charity even if the donor dies after making only a few premium payments. A charitable gift can be made using life insurance without affecting assets earmarked for family members, such as a family home or business. It can also result in a federal estate tax deduction for the full amount paid to the charity. Present gifts of a life insurance policy itself, or a life insurance trust, may even create current income tax deductions for the donor. Consult your tax advisor for more details.

CFA Bill Tracking
CFA is again tracking hundreds bills during this legislative session. Fortunately, more than half of the states have adjourned now cutting down somewhat on the number of bills actively tracked. The bills tracked include animal abuse and abuse registries, seizures, shelters, animals in car provisions, standards of care, pet sales and breeder licensing are some of the categories into which these bills fall. While some bills that the Legislative Group tracks do not initially affect the hobby of breeding and showing cats, they could evolve into legislation that is detrimental to the cat fancy and fanciers. Many other bills do not gain the necessary momentum to warrant issuing an alert to fanciers. They die quickly or quietly. Several bills fit into that category.
Iowa SF 502
This bill, as originally introduced last session, would have added small breeders, show breeders, specialized breeders and rescues to existing law. During the last session, the bill was amended to establish a quality assurance council. SF 502 died when the session adjourned in April 2016.
South Dakota SB 157
SB 157 died, but had it passed it would have made anyone owning or harboring four or more dogs or cats at least 6 months of age for breeding purposes subject to the commercial breeder requirements.
Utah HB 132
People new to searching for legislation could easily overlook HB 132 as it was entitled "an act relating to certain licenses and a municipality's authority." In addition to authorizing local licensing of commercial breeders, HB 132 defined commercial breeders by the number of dogs or cats kept for breeding and if that person provided an offspring to another person, or any person who sold dogs or cats at wholesale for retail to another. HB 132 failed to pass prior to adjournment of the legislature.
West Virginia HB 4653
Had HB 4653 passed, it would have mandated statewide spay or neuter of animals. The only exempt animals were those kept as breeding stock by registered breeders of purebred domestic dogs and cats.

It has been a Banner Year for the our
A-Cat Program!
 Most of our A-Cats have received their new breed banners and I personally have seen them at our CFA shows. They are a great addition to this great program.
In the past show season, our A-Cats have made 287+ appearances at our CFA shows. We presently have 27 active A-Cats and a few of our members are on a medical temporary "leave of absence". We are always looking for new A-Cat members. If you are interested in being part of this program, please contact me at karenllane@ Comcast.net
I want to personally thank all of our A-Cats for their hard work and their dedication to this program. And I want to thank our CFA Board for their support and funding.

Happy May everyone! The CFA Annual meeting is just around the corner, and the Ambassadors will be hosting an informal reception, tentatively set for Thursday evening. I should have the location by the next online newsletter, so watch your email!
Region Reports
Region 1: Chris June
Seacoast Cat Show, April 30-May 1, 2016, Concord, NH The Pet Me Cat Ambassadors would like to thank the Seacoast Cat Club for their support of our PMC group, giving us priority visibility in our show hall and generously offering a comp'd double space for each Pet Me Cat, even if it were entered/competing in the show. This club knows how important it is to the Cat Fancy to reach out to our visiting guests - in addition to being the best way to encourage new exhibitors and future club members and grow the Cat Fancy; you never know when a friendly tip will enrich the life of a cat...or offering someone who has recently lost their beloved pet a chance to hold, hug, cry and heal! The rewards are endless for everyone involved.
Region 2: Meghan Noecker
A wonderful pet fair was held in Portland, Oregon, and CFA Ambassadors took center stage. There were 7 volunteers who brought Ragdolls, Egyptian Maus, Siberians, and a Selkirk Rex. Additionally, a slide show was going on full time, and they littered their space with the CFA Ambassador Banner, and lots of Pet Me! Flags. Regulus rode around in his stroller with a Pet Me! Flag, and also won funniest pet with his airplane costume. They had a blast telling people about CFA, shows, giving grooming tips and answering all sorts of questions. Meghan and her crew made lots of friends who are promising to comeback in October for the next Pet Expo! Additionally, Karen Stenlun's Grand Premier Egyptian Mau recently finished the requirement for his Grand of Distinction and is looking forward to becoming a Pet Me Ambassador cat for shows in the Northwest.
Region 4: Mariane Toth
Although the entry count was small, the quality of those entered at the Cat Nation Fancier's Show in Erie, PA, was outstanding! The gate was awesome the spectators enjoyed the cats and the CFA table most of the brochures where gone by the end of the show. Spectators really enjoyed the judges talking about the cats during class judging and their finals.
Region 5: Shari Millar
Region 5 Ambassadors had a blast in a brand-new show venue, the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The two-day, ten-ring show nearly sold out. Saturday was very crowded and there wasn't much room for the Ambassadors to do much roaming around, but questions were asked and answers given. A shout out to the staff of the Flamingo for their hospitality and gracious service!
Region 6: Candilee Jackson
The MWR ended its show season in Springfield, Illinois, with the America's Heartland Show, April 23-24 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. This awesome show is the result of a consortium of about 10 clubs who come together to put on a terrific show and party. The Illinois State Fairgrounds always has a lovely gate, and this year's spectators did not disappoint. Among the visitors was a small group of special needs young adults who spent a great deal of quality time with kitties whose owners allowed petting and holding. It was truly a beautiful moment.

Judging rings all had a horse race theme |
As anticipated, the 2016-17 show season started off with a bang in New Hampshire with Seacoast CC's annual show. Fortunately, the calendar gave us an extra weekend this year and the club took full advantage. The gate was absolutely amazing. Everyone enjoyed the celebration cakes and the ice cream social. Shouts of "new grand" were heard in virtually every ring. Definitely looking forward to next year's show. The following weekend's show in York, PA, got rave reviews. Greater Lancaster had a great show by all accounts. Tons of vendors, great raffle and fun galore. There was a horse race theme throughout the show hall. Alas, I was home delivering new babies, but Carolyn Jimenez was kind enough to forward some great photos of the decorations I missed seeing - hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Memorial Day Weekend brings us the Siamese Alliance show in Lancaster, PA - a one-day show on Saturday gives everyone two more days to enjoy the rest of the weekend with family. The only June show in the region is on May 11 when Region 1 exhibitors (and others as well) gather at our Regional Show in Stamford, CT. We love this location - show and banquet in a lovely hotel - and look forward to celebrating last season's wins. Hope to see many of you there to celebrate our very own A-Catamy Awards!

The month of May has two traditional shows in Region 2. The first is North Pacific
Siamese to be held on May 14
th in Issaquah. WA. This is a one day six ring show. The
second show is High Sierra Cat Club to be held on Mary 21
st in Roseville, CA. This is
also a one day six ring show.

This past month found us busy preparing for our Regional Show and Awards Banquet in Oklahoma City, OK on June 18-19
th. It started with the April show in Mesquite, which was attended with the same enthusiasm as has been in the past. Kudos to North Texas Cat Club and Ft. Worth Cat Club for the same high quality of show production that we take for granted. Thank you, Paula Noble and Vicky Edwards. Heading into the new show season, we are excited to looking forward to seeing those new grands and household pets.
June will be buzzing with many of us attending the Awards show and banquet and then heading into July with Stars and Stripes- Tabby and Torties show in Conroe. It will be a first for S&S with an in conjunction show with TICA, on July 9th. We are all looking forward to that weekend. Then later, the last weekend in July will see Alamo City Cat Club and the GSR putting on a 6X6 show in Seguin TX. It will be a weekend not to be missed, for sure.

Last season saw many challenges in trying to show and obtain the wins exhibitors had in mind. Thanks to the CFA Board of Directors' help, the Great Lakes Region is proud to brag about their 13 National winners; 2 in Championship, 3 Kittens and 8 in Premiership. Once again, the Great Lakes Region claims the most National wins in Premiership.

On April 16th and 17th of this year, masses of people showed up in Hamilton, Ohio, and gave Cincinnati Cat Club a resounding boost! Exhibitors entered the show, not completely full, but in enough numbers that gave us hope for their future in CFA. Spectators came to see the cats and owners in droves! We now feel that the Hamilton area can support more cat shows in the future.
We had a special presentation of three oxygen masks that will save future cat and dog lives in the Hamilton area. We worked hard to present the show in its best light and everyone seemed to enjoy the weekend. The Fire Department even came back on Sunday with their families.
 Delicious food was served by a food truck vendor to feed everyone this year and we can't wait until next year! Thanks to all that joined in to help make the show great!

Planning Committee Report
Your planning committee has the regional awards show and banquet just about "in the can," but still needs things from YOU to tie up all the loose ends. Cathy Dunham still needs pictures of your winning cats so she can have your award etched and ready to go. Roger Dunham also needs pictures for the On The Road Again slide show: he's looking for pictures of getting ready to go to a show (baths, suitcase packing - with help!), loading up the car, setting up, the show itself, tearing down and heading home. Show Reports
With the 2015-2016 show season in the books, the MWR region ended the season with a lalapalooza show! America's Heartland, a consortium of about 10 region clubs, banded together to present a year-end show to remember on April 23-24 in Springfield, IL. To cap off the event, the exhibitors and judges enjoyed the hospitality of a brand-new LaQuinta Inn so graciously gave the region the use of a meeting room for a Saturday night pizza fest! A great time was enjoyed by all, and many kudos to those who made the show and party a success!

The Southern Region has really come together, and I am proud to be a part of it! Thanks to JoAnn Miksa-Blackwell, our communications director, we have identified people in all parts of the Southern Region who were willing to come on board and work together towards our goal of making the Southern Region even better for everyone! Teresa Keiger and our Southern Stars team are hard at work on our awards banquet and show, and you will find everything under the "Southern Stars" tab on the website. The data downloads were received last Friday afternoon, and several volunteers are working with the data to ensure everything is in order.
We had a quick regional meeting at the Rebel Rousers show, where I told everyone about the Southern Stars information on our website. Although a lot of you are already at work on it, we always welcome more help. If you can help with the show, please contact Joanne Hardemann, show manager-I'm sure she would be happy to hear from you! Help is also welcomed for the banquet and awards room set up, and you can find the coordinators' contact information on our website.
We also welcomed the very first Bengal shown in the Southern Region to our show, who was exhibited by Melody Boyd, the secretary of our newest Southern Region club. While we were discussing potential locations for a show, Melody mentioned to me that she was from Savannah, GA (my most favorite place in the whole world!). I told her that we used to have a show in Savannah, GA, and that it was always a great place to go. She told me she would check out some potential locations. Sharing this with the attendees at our meeting was met with a huge applause-obviously I am not the only one who loves Savannah!
Although I am working with several clubs to find potential dates for shows this season, we still have "holes" in our calendar! If your club would like to put on a show, please let me know. Perhaps several small clubs can join together, and even consider a fundraiser show for the region.
To everyone who is receiving a Southern Region award - my congratulations!! I hope you will all enjoy the festivities of our celebration and know how hard everyone has worked to make it a special memory.
Lastly, I would like everyone to know that it has been my honor to serve the Southern Region these past two years. It has been a huge learning experience for me and I know I am a better person for having done it. Good luck in the new season and remember to enjoy every minute of it!

The First Show of the New Season

The new CFA show season opened in the Southern Region with the traditional Rebel Rousers show in Lawrenceville, GA, the weekend of May 7/8. The weather cooperated with sunny and pleasant conditions, and the show was well attended (read: it was a tough show!). There were lots of new cats for the judges to see, as well as some beautiful older cats who still definitely have it going on!
One of the cats being shown was a Bengal from Savannah, GA. This breed has recently been accepted by CFA, and the Bengal at the Rebel Rousers show was the first to be shown in the Southern Region under the new accreditation.
A new format was used at this first show of the season: 6 AB rings were judged on Saturday, and 4 SP rings were judged on Sunday
The cats (and the judges) were well-behaved, and everyone had a good time!

Before the end of show season, Northland Cat Fanciers held their cat show at the Sapporo Factory Hall in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan on 16-17 April. It was a 6 allbreed and two speciality rings back to back show with 122 entries including HHP. Show hall was very big and good place.
Then on 29 April, after end of the old show season, the farewell party for Kenji Takano was held at Shinagawa Prince Hotel in Tokyo. 150 people attended at there, exhibitors and friends alike. Yaeko Takano, who is his wife and CFA AB judge as you know, spoke to all at end of this party. She said that Kenji was very happy in life and spent nice life with many good friends, and thanked everyone.
Already new show season is begun. We will have Japan Regional Award Banquet on 17 July at Biwako Ohtsu Prince Hotel. Please join us...

The French CFA club Cats'N Cats continues with their CFA shows at the Cote d'Azur with a 6 ring show in Theoule-sur-mer - around 20 km away from Cannes across the Golf Napoule. The exhibitors came from all over CFA Region 9 like Germany, Netherlands, Russia, Ukriane, Malta, and other European countries. Before the show all the exhibitors really enjoyed the warm and fantastic spring weather in south France due the true Mediterranean climate and left the winter mont

Cats'N Cats uses well the different available ring formats to
compose a well-balanced CFA. The experimental ring format which offers all advantages was performed by experienced judges George Cherrie and Arie Gronewegen as well by Lorraine Rivard from Canada and Chloe Chung from China. Sylvie Lamoureux from Canada offered the specialty ring and the special guest from South Africa, Rita Wiseman, completed the setup with an AB ring.
The French style of life was already visible during the show with exhibitors celebrating their personal success and a lot of rosettes for the cats. The common Saturday club dinner - a well-celebrated tradition in CFA Region 9 took place in a local restaurant.

During the show the cat owners are true competitors running for the same award - while at dinner the same people share a bottle of French vine and agree on future CFA exhibitions - to visit together!

First Bengal on a CFA show in Region 9 - Europe
 At the show of the UK CAT FANCIERS on May/07/2016 we had the first Bengal in the judging ring. I feel very honoured to be the very first judge in region 9 who had this beautiful neuter in the morning of the show on my judging table.
His name is Typhast Kimi of Ziggian, a rosetted patterned neutered male, owned by Anne Coak.
I want to thank the club for putting up, once again, a great show.

" The 2016 International Division Award Banquet will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 27 August 2016. The Le Meridien hotel is convenient to the old city temple area and the night market. Ten International Division areas will celebrate together for this big achievement.
Chiangmai is full of Thai history. This banquet will be a mix of Thai and western culture. The banquet itself will be full of live entertainment with dancing and singing. Don't forget the after-dinner party!!!
