60th ANNIVERSARY
2016 marks St. Louis Catholic School's 60th Anniversary!
Save the date for Oct. 21-22, 2016 to commemorate this milestone. Please be sure we have your complete contact information including graduation year. Invitations will be sent out mid-summer. Email to St. Louis Catholic School Development.

ISO: ALUMNI
As plans for the 60th Anniversary Celebration  are underway, we are trying to reach as many alumni as possible. Perhaps you know of fellow classmates or family members who would like to be included or simply be in touch with their elementary school alma mater. Please share this newsletter with them and encourage them to contact school Development.

We are very appreciative of the alumni who have shared photos, yearbooks and class lists. Our archives have a few holes, and we are in search of class lists or yearbooks for the following years:
1963, 1965, 1968, 1969, 1970-1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1986 and 1992.

LOST & FOUND
Many alumni have asked, and we are happy to report that we have been able to locate some of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany who established and taught at St. Louis. Of the 34 Sisters who served at the school, 12 are still living including Sr. Rita Frances, Sr. Charlene Francis, Sr. Therese Marie, Sr. M. Anne Peter, Sr. Mary Jane, Sr. Marie Antoinette, Sr. Mary Charlotte, Sr. M. Pius, Sr. Edward John, Sr. Eleanor Marie, Sr. M. Louis Catherine and Sr. M. Anne Robert.

We will be extending invitations for the 60th Anniversary to them and other former faculty and staff members, as well as past presidents of the Home & School League or PTO. If you have a family member who previously served at the school, please let us know.

Greetings from your Elementary School Alma Mater!

In January, we sent out our first alumni newsletter issue. What a blessing it was to receive responses from so many alum who have fond memories of their days at St. Louis School and who are anxious to join us in October for our 60th anniversary celebration! If this is your first time on the mailing list, please check out our inaugural issue which highlights where we've been and where we are going as a school community.

This year's school and parish spiritual theme is "Try Mercy"! Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, opened the jubilee Year of Mercy with the message of extending our Lord's healing love to all that we meet. This is the same message that we share with all of our students, day in and day out through curricular instruction, through daily interaction, and through staff professional development. We are grateful for the ongoing support and involvement of our pastor, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler, and our parish priests, who continue to teach this message during Monday morning assemblies, Friday school Masses, and through their frequent visits to our classrooms and hallways.

As we approach Kindergarten and 8th grade graduation, I am prayerfully reminded of my final days as a St. Louis student and the wonderful commencement celebrations that I enjoyed here myself as well as through my brothers and sisters and my own children. St. Louis School continues to prepare its graduates for the rigors of secondary and higher education. We are preparing to send 50 eighth graders out to the following high schools: Bishop Ireton, John Paul the Great, O'Connell, Gonzaga, Madeira, Thomas Jefferson, West Potomac, Mt. Vernon, and Edison. We have students who have participated in Diocesan Honors Band, the State Geography Bee, the Regional Science Fair, the National Junior Honor Society, and numerous regional service organizations, in addition to their combined excellence in performance on the National High School Placement Exam. We also continue to prepare our students for societal challenges as we provide them with ongoing faith-filled activities and on-going studies in both Catholic catechism and Catholic apologetics.

Wherever you are and whatever stage of life you are in, whether it is running around to your own children's activities or celebrating the events and successes of your grandchildren, please keep St. Louis School in your prayers. We will continue to keep all of our St. Louis families as part of our daily prayers and intentions.

Peace,
Kathleen Faherty McNutt, Class of 1983

St. Louis School Media Center...
Coming Summer 2016!
Rendering of new computer lab.
We are excited as we look towards the renovation of our library and computer lab this summer! The library will be updated with a new layout, furniture and technology to bring our current space into the 21st century, including the addition of an e-reader room. The computer lab will be moving to the end of the hallway adjacent to the library, with the renovation to include necessary updated wiring and furniture for computers, tablets and chrome books.

Within the new renovation design plan, space has been allocated for small conferencing rooms for resource and small group instruction, and a counselor's office. These are such needed spaces for all of our students and teachers! All new spaces will have updated flooring, doorways, and wiring for interactive white board systems.

Our renovated space will become the St. Louis Media Center, with the Fran Schneider Library and the Noreen Gilmour Computer Lab. Fran Schneider began teaching at St. Louis School in 1975, working as a teacher and assistant principal until 2006 when she was diagnosed with ALS. Noreen Gilmour was the Principal of St. Louis School for 19 years, from 1987 until 2006, bringing computers into the classroom and facilitating the opening of our first computer lab. Both of these women shared a passion for Catholic education and a deep love of the St. Louis School community. It is a privilege to add their names to our renovated spaces.

Funds raised during this year's Annual Fund Drive will go towards the renovation project, benefiting all of our students. We are so grateful to those families who have already contributed, and we appreciate the many families who are still discerning a contribution. We look forward to sharing the renovated space with our current families and with our alumni, as we enter our 60th anniversary year this Fall 2016!
