Connections | August 2014
Every Woman's Place for Support, Connections and Community.
Equity + Community
What is equity? Why is equity important to people in our community? What might a framework for equity look like? We recently teamed up with Community Connections YYC and a group of 40 passionate individuals to explore some answers to these topics and share our ideas for change. Click here to learn more.

Thank you to CommunityWise Resource Centre for sharing their space with us for this event. And thank you to everyone who made this day of meaningful analysis and thoughtful discussion possible. We felt inspired and energized from the passion, experience and knowledge of the group!

Community Events
We recently took part in the Bridgeland Re-Localization Fair where we ran a photo project asking people about their communities. Click here to see the inspiring results! Photos by Tasha Barrie.
Thank You
More than 400 folks came out to join us in celebrating our Stampede Lunch last month. Thank you to our event sponsor, Encana, and to all donors including Rocky's Sausage Haus, COBS Bread, and Co-Op. A special thank-you to Carla Olive who provided us with musical entertainment. Read more, or view photos.
More Thank Yous!
A tremendous thank-you goes out to all of the runners, walkers, sponsors and prize donors who helped us raise more than $13,500 for our Basic Needs program through the Calgary Marathon! Read more, or view photos.
Featured Workshops
Join us for a series of creative workshops that will combine sketching with stretching and body awareness. We will do some basic pencil drawings, and at the end of the series you will have created your own sketchbook. No special skills required. All supplies provided.

Together we will explore what types of situations and behaviours are safe and which ones are not. Learn basics on how to stay safe in your daily life and in difficult situations, and how you can defend yourself against an attacker.

The percentage of women in the workforce today has increased significantly in comparison to thirty years ago and has introduced a balancing act between the public sphere and domestic sphere - can we do it all? Join us for a discussion of work-life balance through a feminist perspective.

You have heard of Pride celebrations in Calgary, but what is the Dyke and Trans* March? We will share more details of the event, explore various identities within this community, and discuss and analyze the unique marginalization that people within this community experience.

Our workshops & groups are free and open to all women. Click here to see the complete August calendar.
