Welcome to Summer in the City, 2016.
Let The Red Jacket help you get ready for it all. Fabulous beach reading with Alexander Girard. Take in a sensational exhibit at the Whitney with Stuart Davis. Perhaps take a stroll with a new friend from SeeSpotRescued. And definitely order something light and lively, and decidedly Doris Day in feeling at Bemelmans at The Carlyle to toast the new season.  Lemonade with vodka anyone?

Red Jacket New Development
Manhattan View at MIMA
The top floors of MIMA have been reborn. First off, they hired Drake/Anderson, an interior design firm founded by the veteran designer Jamie Drake, whose clients have included Madonna and Michael Bloomberg, and his former protégé Caleb Anderson. The firm is renovating the apartments, while also overhauling the hallways and the condominium's dedicated entrance at 460 West 42nd Street. The developers also gave the project a new name - Manhattan View at MiMA.
It is Mr. Drake's first multiunit residential project, and although he is frequently lauded in shelter magazines for his masterful use of bold colors, the apartments have a more restrained palette.
The design employs "a language of sheen and shimmer," said Mr. Drake, because, "what is Manhattan but Oz for so many people - it's the emerald city that glitters in the distance."
I have personally previewed this project, and it  looks great. Amazing views now combined with superb interiors.

The Art of Home Staging
We also stage owner occupied furnished homes - adding just the right colors, textures, hues and sizes that are appropriate to show your home in its very best light. A new project example of this is featured above.

The historic home in Hoboken, now listed at under $1.7 million, has an amazing Danish Modern vibe that was being drowned out with other styles, colors and motifs. We decided to run with the signature light wood feel and gave the home a more minimal stance. Perfect as a backdrop for our favorite Marimekko pillows and fabrics. The stretched canvas wall art is one of my personal Marimekko favs.

Clutter was removed, colors were neutralized, with lamps brought in for warmth & light.
You only have One chance to make a first impression, so make sure that First look is the very best. Best Practices = Best Results.

Red Jacket Exhibit News
Stuart Davis: In Full Swing
Stuart Davis may be the most amiable American Abstract artist-the one who set Cubism to a syncopated beat and brought vivid color and energy to modernism. "Stuart Davis: In Full Swing", a new exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art, portrays the artist as something of a conceptualist who reworked motifs throughout his long career (1920s to 60s). By contrasting early works with later ones using similar imagery, the show demonstrates that Davis was consistent in his vision and approach, even as his imagination never flagged. Opens June 10th.

Alexander Girard:
A Designer's Universe
The least known of a group of American Mid-Century designers, Alexander Girard was always my favorite. What he did was less important than how he did it. His design was fresh, humane, lighthearted, colorful and emotional...and the emotion was complete joy.
This book is quite comprehensive. A total joy from cover to cover. Furniture, tableware, carpets, rugs, wallpaper, murals, stage sets, packaging, logos, toys, and for Braniff International Airlines, plane exteriors and interiors.
It is quite a career of happiness. His designs have always brought a smile to my face, and added a sometimes very needed human touch to Mid-Century Design.

See Spot Rescued
Hold On to Chynna Phillips! Chynna is a four-month-old, 20-pound (currently) Bassett Hound mix and she is so unbelievably delicious and snuggly. In addition to being an excellent dancer due to her stint on Dancing with the Stars, Chynna's also quite the looker. She has the cutest freckled tummy and legs, as well as markings that make her look like she's wearing a raccoon mask.
Chynna Phillips is spayed, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccines.
