Expert in Nursing Care Award
|

|
Jeanette Simon was recognized at our annual dinner as recipient of MODNA's Expert in Nursing Care award. Jeanette is a Registered Nurse at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital. She is also a member of MODNA, OSUNO, ONA, ANA, AFT/NFN, and AACN.
Jeanette was nominated by co-worker Alana Smith. In her nomination letter Alana told us this about Jeannette. "When thinking about the five values of an expert in nursing care, I think of Jeanette. She shows compassion by treating every patient how she would want her own parents to be treated in a hospital setting. She truly wants to give quality care and helps to create an atmosphere on our unit where compassionate care is obvious and important. Sometimes this is just as simple as offering a smile and getting a patient to laugh through a difficult situation. She is a competent CCU nurse and leads by example. She is knowledgeable and offers assistance or instruction to coworkers to help maintain a "family" atmosphere on our unit. Because of her conscience and dedication to excellent nursing care, she serves on multiple committees to support nursing and quality patient outcomes. She knows that we can always deliver better care than we did yesterday, and works hard throughout the medical center to make a difference in quality patient care, making improvements when we can. She shows confidence in her practice as a nurse leader on our unit, as a charge nurse, and as a hospital Committee Chair. And finally, she shows commitment to our patients and profession through her dedication to quality improvement to patient care and nursing development on our unit."
Congratulations Jeanette!

Volunteer of the Year
Kay Ball, PhD, RN, CNOR, FAAN
Chairperson, MODNA Legislative Committee
At last month's Annual Dinner we proudly announced this year's Volunteer of the Year - Kay Ball. Kay chairs our active Legislation Committee, rarely misses a MOD meeting/CE event, and regularly facilitates getting students involved in district activities. Unfortunately Kay wasn't able to be with us at the Annual Dinner. Feeling exhausted, she decided to take a quick nap and woke up many hours later. While we missed having her with us that evening, we are happy that her need for self-care prevailed!
Congratulations Kay!

MOD Motivators
|
I am very excited to have been recently appointed to serve on the Ohio Action Coalition's Leadership Workgroup. This group has three strategies, analyze data collected regarding Nurses on Boards from 2015 RN license renewal data, create board leadership training materials, and perform curricular mapping of leadership content in undergraduate nursing programs. I will be leading the 2
nd strategy work group that is charged with creating board leadership training and materials. The goal is to provide board preparation training to 40 nurses by December 2017. A short-term, sub- work group is now being formed and will need approximately 7 to 9 members who have an interest in developing a board leadership training curriculum. This new work group will meet both in person and via conference call. Interested? Have experience in board leadership or training, or know someone who would be perfect for this work? Association membership is not required. Please contact me at
tpope@modna.org for more information.
