CPhA's Naloxone Access Bill Heads to Governor
The California Legislature this morning took final action with the State Assembly's unanimous vote to pass AB 1535 (Bloom) and send the bill to Governor Jerry Brown. AB 1535 is CPhA's bill to expand access to naloxone hydrochloride by allowing pharmacists to furnish the medication under a statewide protocol. Giving pharmacists this authority significantly helps efforts to increase distribution of naloxone, an opioid overdose prevention measure recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Justice, the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and many other mental health, substance abuse, and public safety experts.
