SNMMI President
Report

Gary L. Dillehay, MD, FACR
2014-15 SNMMI President

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.  As we near the end of the first year of the SNMMI strategic plan I am overwhelmed by the

accomplishments we have made. As president of this organization, I have had the unique opportunity to interact and engage with many of our liaison and international colleagues over the past twelve months. Through these interactions, we have gained important partnerships and have

been able to take part in several intriguing collaborative opportunities which have opened the door for SNMMI to expand position within the field. The dedication and work of all of the

volunteers within this organization is extraordinary. As my year as president comes to an end, I am reflecting fondly on the many accomplishments we have made and the successes we have

encountered. There is a long road ahead for nuclear medicine and molecular imaging, but

through our continued efforts within the key areas identified below, I am certain that the next 60 years will be remarkable.

Nuclear Medicine Technology Students and Faculty Present and Achieve at Their Professional Society's Annual Meeting

Six MSHS Nuclear Medicine Technology students, one faculty member and two clinical instructors submitted research abstracts to the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging for presentation at the 2014 annual meeting.  All abstracts were accepted and all researchers presented their findings on June 9, 2014 at the St. Louis Convention Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Allison Woodwick was awarded  recognition of 1st place oncology paper in the student technologist section for her research titled Do intradermal lymphoscintigraphy injections with Tc99m Tilmanocept produce less perceived pain than filtered Tc99m sulfur colloid injections?

Student Travel Awards were presented to MSHS NMT students on behalf of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section, to aid in decreasing travel expenses and allow students the ability to present their research at the annual SNMMI Meeting.  Award recipients included Allison Woodwick, Katie Murphy and Katie Hill.

Allison Woodwick and Lisa Fernholz were awarded travel grants on behalf of the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology to aid in travel expenses to allow them the opportunity to present their research at the WFNMB Annual Meeting in Cancun, Mexico in August 2014.

Two $1000 Paul Cole Scholarships were awarded, by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technologist Section to Ann Ellering and Allison Woodwick. This scholarship was created to encourage

outstanding students to pursue their dreams in the nuclear medicine profession.

New and Improved Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging

October 18-19, 2014

Kalahari Resort and Convention Center

Sandusky, OH

Register NOW!

The fields of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging are experiencing two kinds of progress-the "Wow!  That's really clever!" type enabled by major breakthroughs and truly novel ideas in technology and science, and the "It's about time something happened to that old standard" type, whereby a tried-and-true practice is gradually but inexorably replaced by something newer and, hopefully, better.  This concise day-and-a-half educational symposium offers examples of both types for technologists, physicians, scientists and  educators, covering selected advances in instrumentation, development of diagnostic and therapeutic      radiopharmaceuticals, the status of clinical trials, and best-practice updates.  We hope you enjoy our  intellectual smorgasbord!

Central Chapter
President Message

Michelle Kritzman, MS
2014-15 CCSNMMI President

It has been such an exciting year so far. I can't believe it is already almost half over.  The annual spring meeting was held in Ann Arbor, March 15-16. We had great speakers on topics including radiation dose, therapeutic treatments and finishing up on Sunday with dedicated cardiology lectures.  Continuing education credits were offered for physicians, physicists and technologists, along with four SAM's credits for physicians and physicists. Even though there is a decline in the number of individuals attending meetings, almost 300 participants were at the Spring Meeting. It was a huge success. Well, maybe I am a little biased, since this was my first meeting as Program Chair (along with Alice Pichan) and taking over as President from Dr. Paresh Mahajan.  Thank you Dr. Mahajan for a great term as President. During the annual spring meeting oral presentation of abstracts were given by residents, technologists and students.  Travel to the national meeting for the SNMMI may be out of reach for many individuals seeking to present abstracts; however, this is a great venue to start.  CCSNMMI is dedicated to bringing educational forums to all the states within the chapter. Currently, we run two meetings per years and five roadshows in the fall. Chapter meetings present great opportunities to network and hear what is happening in nuclear medicine.  The next meeting will be held October 18-19, 2014 at Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio. If you interested in becoming more involved and would like to join a committee, please contact me via the chapter email, info@ccsnm.org.

MAA Price Spike: Jubilant DraxImage Address Dodges Antitrust Concern

Written by Kathy Mahdoubi for MolecularImaging.net,
June 13, 2014

General discontent followed a one-time, exponential price hike from Jubilant DraxImage (JDI) starting April 1 for the company's exclusive MAA kit for the preparation of technetium-99m albumin, a lung perfusion agent. An industry forum on challenges in the radiopharmaceutical realm presented during the recent Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) 2014 Annual Meeting in St. Louis featured a panel of speakers, including vice president of sales, marketing and business development for JDI, Kevin Brooks, who made a case for the company.
