Blount Partnership News & Events

I know it's Monday, but we've got a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. at Anderson Lumber Company as they show off their newly remodeled store. Today's ceremony kicks off a week long celebration as Anderson Lumber has many other events and sales for its customers. So if you can't make the ribbon cutting, be sure to stop by an check out the new digs.

Have you checked out the Blount Partnership blog and podcasts by our president/CEO Bryan Daniels? It's a great way to keep up with what's going on in the business side of the community.

Don't forget, the annual HR Seminar is coming up on Sept. 4 at the Blount County Library. Check out the program and register here.

Primetime is also on the horizon, coming up Oct. 28 at Maryville College's Alumni Gym. It's a Spooktakular Party that you won't want to miss as we gather our Chamber members under one roof for a Halloween themed event. Stay tuned for more information.

NOMINATIONS NEEDED FOR BEST OF BLOUNT AWARDS
are now being taken for Best of Blount Awards (formerly Business Excellence Awards). The six categories include small and large business of the year, philanthropist of the year, community impact award, tourism award and bright future award. So please nominate any person or business you believe has had an impact on Blount County over the past year.

Be sure to save the date of Nov. 6 at the Clayton Center for the Arts as Rob O'Neill, one of the most highly-decorated combat veterans of our time, is the guest speaker. He was a team leader with the Naval Special Warfare Development Group. O'Neill has deployed more than a dozen times, and held combat leadership roles in more than 400 combat missions in four different theaters of war. A highly-trained Navy SEAL, he led the military's most elite and was involved in our nation's most important campaigns. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Stay tuned for ticket information.

VACATION RACES
Do you like distance run? If so, you'll want to take part in the Vacation Races half marathon set for Sept. 20. The course runs from Heritage High School in the Hubbard Community outside Maryville and ends in Townsend. Find out more information at greatsmokymountainshalfmarathon.com and check out the promo video.

Now's your opportunity to be featured during the 2015 Blount Partnership Annual Meeting set for Jan. 30 at the Airport Hilton. We want your selfies. Any selfie of you, taken any time and any place. (Please take your pictures safely; especially not while driving.)

How it Works:

3. Post your pic to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or email.
Don't forget to use the #BPAM2015 tag on ALL your selfies and look for them at the Annual Meeting!

GOT AN EVENT? WE'D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT
Is your organization hosting an event in the community? Submit it here on our community calendar. If it's a tourism event, please email Ashlee so she can post it on www.SmokyMountains.org.

Also, please send us any news releases or good news about your business. We'd love to share it with the community.

REMEMBER WHEN
I'll lighten the mood a bit this week as I bring you the No. 1 Billboard song from this week in 1991. It's the title song from the Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves movie soundtrack, Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You." The song was in the midst of its seven-week run atop the charts and Adams won a 1992 Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television.
