Blount Partnership News & Events

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program is an opportunity to spread joy and cheer to the less fortunate during the holidays. Whether you are an individual, family, organization, church, business or club, you can help make a difference by accepting any number of Angel Tree "tags" from The Salvation Army.

Each tag represents the wishes and desires of a child. Through the Angel Tree program, children have their specific needs and wants met for a warm and joyous holiday experience. This year they are looking for fill Angel's for 255 needy children in Blount County.

CHECK YOUR ONLINE LISTING
The Blount Chamber is streamlining its online and Basically Blount directory listings by categorizing its members by the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) and North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes. As a result, we ask that you review your online listing at www.BlountChamber.com to make sure all your contact information is correct. If you need to make updates to your listing, email Amy.

CHRISTMAS OPEN HOUSE
After a one-year hiatus due to construction, the Blount Partnership Christmas Open House is back for the 15th time this Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. The Partnership staff will be cooking and wearing their best ugly Christmas sweaters.

So please make plans to drop by and enjoy some outstanding food. Here's a brief sampling to whet your appetite: cheese and sausage casserole, French toast casserole, pecan praline french toast, sausage balls, sausage/egg/cheese casserole, cheesy ham and hash brown casserole and bacon/egg/hash brown casserole. I have to stop writing because I'm getting hungry.

BASICALLY BLOUNT DEADLINE IS DEC. 11
The deadline to get your ad in the 2016 edition of Basically Blount is this Friday, Dec. 11. This annual, full-color lifestyle magazine and chamber membership directory is initially distributed to all Chamber members starting Feb. 2016, along with distribution four times throughout the year via area professional offices, newcomers, visitors, and new businesses all looking to relocate to Blount County.

In addition to intriguing stories and area photography that highlight the best of Blount County, Basically Blount also includes a finger-indexed, color-coded directory and buyer's guide of all Chamber members. Chamber members consistently tell us that they keep Basically Blount on hand throughout the year in order to find business products and services when they need them. In addition to 5,000 lifestyle magazines, we will have a complete online version on both the chamber and economic development websites.

We are pleased to offer a variety of advertising opportunities at cost effective rates. We have contracted with Marcon Marketing Consultants, a local Chamber member, to handle production and ad sales. The Dialogue

This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our eighth installment visiting with Wade McLemore, Sales Consultant at Paychex, which is here to provide payroll, human resource, and benefits solutions.

Describe what Paychex does. Paychex, Inc. is a leading provider of integrated human capital management solutions for payroll, HR, retirement, and insurance services. By combining its innovative software-as-a-service technology and mobility platform with dedicated, personal service, Paychex empowers small- and medium-sized business owners to focus on the growth and management of their business. Backed by more than 40 years of industry expertise, Paychex serves approximately 590,000 payroll clients across 100 locations and pays one out of every 15 American private sector employees.

How did Paychex get started? The company was founded in 1971 by B. Thomas Golisano with just $3,000 and a good idea - to make payroll outsourcing easy and affordable for small businesses. From those early days with just one employee, Paychex now has more than 12,000 employees serving more than half a million small- to medium-sized businesses nationwide.

How did you get the skills to work in this operation? I went through 200 hours of training before I could interact with a potential client. After my first round of job-dependent training, I embarked upon two additional tiers of intensive training to prepare me in becoming a consultant to the clients I serve.

What sets Paychex apart? A a number of government task forces and agencies are in place to make sure business owners are compliant with various regulations when it comes to the employee/employer relationship. Our role is to help lighten, or eliminate, the burden so that they can focus on running their businesses.

What do you enjoy about running or working at the business? My favorite aspect of working for Paychex is the people I get to connect with on a daily basis. I hope to not only grow my business, but also the businesses of Blount County.
