where municipalities can submit funding applications for local infrastructure projects. P
riority will be given to projects that "renovate, expand and improve existing community infrastructure, with a focus on recreational facilities, projects
that advance a
clean growth economy
, and projects with a positive impact on Indigenous communities."
Applicants should be able to start the projects quickly, be seeking less than half of the total project cost from this particular program, and be able to complete the project by fall 2017.

Awareness, inspections, and decontamination are critical to protecting our water bodies from these invasive species, currently causing expensive problems in parts of the United States, Manitoba, and Ontario. This animation from the Nature Conservancy shows how the mussels have spread from the Great Lakes since their introduction from Europe in the 1980s.
