June is finally here! The "unofficial" start of summer has begun. The kids are officially out of school for the year here in Arizona, and it's time to get all the family fun started.
From day trips, to side trips to full-on vacations, families everywhere are making plans. Make sure to keep your furry family members involved, whether they join you or you book them for their own Second Home Pet Resort "stay-cation." From Adopt-A-Cat Month to Hug Your Cat Day, June is also a great month for your felines. All the information is right here in this month's Pet Tips and Treats newsletter, which is filled with valuable information. Remember to watch for our periodic special discount "treat" just for you and your pet to enjoy. Don't forget to share the love and send our newsletter to others who also cherish their pets.

Celebrate Adopt-A-Cat Month And Bring Home a New Feline Friend

Spring is kitten season and with it comes numerous litters of unwanted kitties who either roam the streets with no family to call home or who end up at local shelters, along with their older counterparts.

In order to help spread the word and get more people interested in adopting kittens and older cats, American Humane Association sponsors Adopt-A-Cat month every June in hopes of enlightening the public about all the cats out there needing homes.

Sophie is looking for her forever home! She is a sweet, petite little girl. She gets along well with other cats and would love to have a home to call her own. If you are interested in meeting Sophie, please email info@secondhomepetresort.com

The Best Ways to Keep Your Pet's Hair Mat Free

You love your dogs and cats, but sometimes the hair! Oh the hair! Especially for those long-haired dogs and cats. What is a pet owner to do? Sometimes caring for the long hair can get away from you. Matted pet hair can be difficult to detangle and, most of all, can even be painful for your beloved furry family member.

Employee Spotlight: Ruth Prida, guest service attendant

Ruth Prida has two important positions at Second Home Pet Resort. As full-time Guest Service Attendant, she takes care of all the needs of the dogs and cats from getting them situated into their suites and feeding them to administering medications.

She also is a night attendant twice a week. "We have elderly animals or animals with medical issues, so they have to be monitored more closely," Ruth said.

Ruth started at Second Home when the doors opened in 2008.  She likes to give pet parents a report on how they did during their stay. "I try to make them feel at ease when they leave their pet and tell them they can call for an update," she said.

Most of all, Ruth enjoys interacting with the animals and giving them extra TLC. "I keep my eyes open for the stressed-out little guys so I can give them extra loving," she said.

Shift changes are important at Second Home. It's a chance for everyone to express concerns about any of the animals or anything out of the ordinary. " I think we do an excellent job as far as watching out and going above and beyond," Ruth said.
