Women and the Church: What Do We Tell Our Daughters?

Sunday, October 16; 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

The Film Radical Grace and a discussion with Chris Schenk, CSJ

The role of women in the church has been a topic of discussion for decades. Some say that Pope Francis speaks of a “deeper theology of women” in which women are part of the laity that are the backbone of the church, and clergy provide a supporting role.

Some see limits on women’s roles in the church to be anachronistic means of defending male privilege. Amidst these seemingly irreconcilable differences, how are women of the church living their faith?

Come and learn the stories of three Catholic sisters in the film “Radical Grace.” These women chose to follow their calls for justice at a time when they and their Orders were being maligned as “radical feminists.”

They did not acquiesce, leave the church, or rise up in outrage. They continued to struggle for justice through prayer, compassion, and perseverance. As one film reviewer wrote, it is “heart warming and inspirational to see these women who are truly noble in the worthiest fight of their lives.”

Chris Schenk, CSJ is one of the sisters whose story is featured in this film. She will be with us in person to share her own thoughts about women in the church and help us grapple with the question, “What do we tell our daughters?”

Registration is $25 when received by September 23; $35 thereafter.

Please register by September 30.

Payment in full is due prior to arrival.
