A Pressing Need for Lunches on the Square
Every 4th Sunday we gather in the chapel to make sandwiches and bag lunches. The bagged lunches are delivered to 250 people residing in subsidized apartments in Newark. The other part of the Lunches on the Square program is serving a meal in partnership with Trinity Episcopal church in Newark. Over the past few months the number of people coming for the Sunday meal has continued to increase. We served a record number of meals on Sunday, August 24th. One hundred people came to eat. The fellowship hall at Trinity was full of families with young children, senior citizens, people who talked about being homeless, and individuals who were just hungry. We began serving food at 2:00. By 2:30 most of the food was gone. Lunches on the Square is entirely supported by donations from both members of the United Church of Granville and friends of the program. The increased need has resulted in an increase in the amount of funds needed to support this program. The Mission and Social action Committee is seeking additional donations. Donations can be made directly to United Church of Granville (write LOS on the memo line) or online through the church website (navigate to "Stewardship and Giving"). The Fellowship Fund ...is used to provide assistance to church members facing financial need. Periodically, we collect contributions during worship to replenish this fund. This Sunday, envelopes will be available in the pews for this offering. Thanks for considering a donation. SPARK "Soup Kitchen" Tuesdays, Noon-1 PM UCG Annex Gym Denison University and SPARK have partnered to make a hot lunch available to the community at no charge. Come enjoy a free meal with friends! For more info, call 740-587-0200. This is both an opportunity for SPARKlers, who get a chance to serve the meal, and for folks to come together in community. Consider joining the Justice & Peace Action Network! Did you know that the UCC has a Justice and Peace Action Network you can be a part of? When I Am Among the Trees
When I am among the trees, especially the willows and the honey locust, equally the beech, the oak and the pines, they give off such hints of gladness. I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself, in which I have goodness, and discernment, and never hurry through the world but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves and call out, "Stay awhile." The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, "It's simple," they say, "and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine."

- The Feminist Class
The Feminist Class is exploring the challenges and horizons that are confronting feminist religious life and thought in the 21st century. We begin with Feminist Theologies: Legacy and Prospect, an anthology that was edited by Rosemary Radford Ruether in 2007. In keeping with our custom of engaging both our right and left brains, our second book, The Grandmother Galaxy: A Journey into Feminist Spirituality, by Shirley Ann Ranck, focuses on contemporary women's creative spirituality. It presents an autobiographical account of one woman's journey into three spirals of learning that characterize contemporary life. Everyone is welcome; we are meeting in the old choir room that is behind the sanctuary.

APB! We're missing one white, circular table. If you know it's whereabouts, could you let Louise know? Also, there are a number of items (perhaps unclaimed, lost or left for others to pick up) on the counters of the front office. Please check to see if any of these items belong to you or yours. And if you're leaving an item for someone else, make sure it's clearly marked. Thanks! ___________________________________
