7TH GRADE GIRLS BOOKTALK

After months of reading, learning and analyzing the book "Forever My Jerusalem" by Puah Shteiner, the 7th grade girls had an amazing time at the Mother- Daughter Book Talk on May 24th. The night began with a welcome from Rabbi Hecht and Morah Hakimian and then continued with different activities for the girls and moms to do together- like arts and crafts or a drama acting group. About 10 girls shared their perspective on the book, the life lessons they learned from the shaking story of Puah during the war and especially about all the things we should be grateful for now that we have the State of Israel. At the end there was a spectacular performance by the 7th graders where Morah Hakimian showed the mothers a special "mommy appreciation video" and taught the students a song of yearning for our Beit Hamikdash and the final redemption. The grand finale was a big, beautiful, delicious cake. It was a really great night for both the girls and the moms. Thank you to all the teachers who made an effort to be there and share in the experience.

LAG B'OMER

Lag B'Omer was fantastic.  All of the students were treated to some fantastic inflatables.  There was an obstacle course, a combination rock wall/slide, jousting and a hamster ball.  The hamster ball was definitely a hit (until it popped).  The students were literally rolling inside this bag, plastic contraption.  The jousting was intense.  It was especially intense when the teachers were involved.  The obstacle course also led to some good old-fashioned competition.  In the afternoon, the perfect treat to help cool off the students was delicious Marino's ices.  We all had a blast!

SCRABBLE UPDATE

On May 26 the Middle School held its first  Student/Teacher
Scrabble  Tournament. All week the excitement grew. Students tried to assure their partners not to worry- all the  Scrabble  Club members were expert players at this point. Our coach, David Gould, joined us in case difficult rulings had to be made.

There were several high scoring games, but ultimately the team of Josh Goldenberg and Mrs. Joyce Lieberman came in first place, followed by Aryeh Goldress and Rabbi Olshan in second place and Zeke Rothbort and Ms. McDougall in third.

We also thank the teams of Rena Max and Morah Klein, Shayna Greenstein and Morah Hakimian, Elan Moskowitz and Mrs. Fryman, Adam Speiser and Rabbi Hanson and Rebecca Tavakoli and Mrs. Seeno for making the tournament such a fun experience.
We hope this is just the first of many student/teacher events.

INCREDIBLE SCIENCE

Last Thursday the 7th grade dissected dead frogs. We were given gloves and dissecting tools. First, we had to cut open the frog's mouth and we were able to see inside. . Afterwards, we flipped the frog on its back and cut open its stomach. We saw all the organs we learned about with Ms. McDougall. When each group was finished, they were able to play around with the frog's organs. Imagine holding intestines! Or a stomach!

Last week in science class I dissected a frog. It was really a great experience and helped us understand the way the body works. We worked with a partner and that helped because if one person didn't want to do something, the other person helped out.  We got to actually see everything we had studied with Ms. McDougall.

Dissecting frogs was a stimulating and enjoyable experience that was a pleasure to take part in. Recently, in science, we learned about body systems such as the digestive and muscular systems. The dissection really gave us a hands-on opportunity to see and understand what we had heard about and watched in pictures and videos.Though it probably won't be necessary for what we will do in the future, it definitely will be a memory we will never forget.
