Hello and thanks for reading!

2013 has been a dynamite year for Upton Bass- from the introduction of new instruments to winning awards at the ISB to the imminent expansion of the Boston shop, we're fired up for a big 2014!

For this edition of the Upton Report, I thought I'd recap some of our favorite videos from this year. Look for links within the text for additional videos and information on our basses, and as always,
don't hesitate to contact us with any questions. We love hearing from you!

Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

ISB 2013: David Murray and his UB Karr

The ISB 2013 was a huge success for Upton Bass. Not only did we win two certificates for our fully carved 4/4 UB Karr in the Bass Making Competition, but we also met and reconnected with hundreds of double bassists, including Mr. David Murray, who loved this UB Karr so much he took it home!

The First UB Concord

2013 also saw the birth of the UB Concord- our first "truly New England" double bass. Flat back, Buscetto cornered and large (akin to our Brescian model but with a different aesthetic touch), the Concord has proven to be one of our most popular and coveted builds to date. Click on the pic to hear Gary discuss in more detail.

...and another introduction- The UB Standard

This year we also re-introduced the UB Standard double bass as both a laminate and hybrid. Of course we've built a Standard bass before, but never have we offered a package price- fully setup with strings and adjusters- for such a low price. The Standard is our "factory" bass, all built, varnished and setup in our Mystic, CT shop the same way (we use the term "factory" as this bass is built on set specs, however they are all made by the same four luthiers that build our custom instruments!), thus the turnaround time is significantly less that a custom built Upton.

Blues in the Classroom!

Finally, one of our favorite viral videos from this year, two double bass legends Lynn Seaton and his UB Bostonian soloing "Blues in the Closet" with Christian McBride. What a way to end the year- with a BOOM! Enjoy!
