The role of VCs on private boards and their boardroom role in the IPO process are the stuff of Silicon Valley legend. The real story of VCs in boardrooms -- when they first take a seat at the table to when they eventually leave the room -- needs to be told. We'll help set the record straight with this engaging look into boardroom dynamics.

Our Panel

Stacey Bishop is a partner at Scale Venture Partners. Stacey focuses on software as a service (SaaS) and digital marketing. She currently serves on the boards of directors of Bizible, Demandbase, HubSpot, Sailthru and previously at Vitrue, prior to its acquisition by Oracle. In addition to sourcing Omniture and ExactTarget, Stacey advises many of ScaleVP's other portfolio companies, including Box and DocuSign. Prior to joining ScaleVP in 1999, Stacey specialized in M&A within Bank of America's corporate development group. Stacey worked in equity research at Morgan Stanley and began her career as an account manager at Syntel, an IT services firm. Stacey holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA from University of Michigan.

Brooke Seawell is a venture partner at New Enterprise Associates and currently serves on the board of directors of Tableau Software (NYSE: DATA), NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA), Informatica (NASDAQ: INFA), Lithium Technologies, SiTime and SugarCRM. Brooke served on the management board of the Stanford Business School from 2008-2012 and currently serves on the Stanford Athletic Board. He received his MBA and BA from Stanford University.

Tim Wilson, managing director of Artiman, focuses on early-stage technology investments. He currently represents Artiman on the boards of Crossbar Semiconductor, Kaybus and Nutrinsic. Tim also serves on the boards of InvenSense, Five9, Prysm and LedEngin. Previously Tim was a general partner at Partech International. Before that he was the CMO for Digital Island which was acquired in 2001 for $350 million. Prior to that, Tim served as general manager at Lucent Technology where he led the international voice communications product management team (now Avaya) with P&L for product lines generating over $2 billion in annual sales. Tim also held a variety of senior management positions within AT&T. Tim holds his AB in physics from Bowdoin College and received his MBA from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business.

Heather Gates is director and west region leader of Deloitte's Emerging Growth Company practice. She has more than 25 years of experience working with high-growth technology companies, including 12 years at Deloitte. Heather is a master at cultivating and maintaining strong relationships throughout the startup and venture capital communities in Silicon Valley. With her vast personal network and knowledge of the industry, Heather has unique insight into the people, institutions and technologies that shape Silicon Valley. She regularly meets with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists and has significantly grown Deloitte's stature, presence, influence and service to leading Bay Area companies. Heather was responsible for introducing Deloitte to LinkedIn in its early startup phase as a client in our EGC practice.
