Adopt-A-Mile Program Takes Off in South Cobb
More Miles of Roadway Adopted!
Barry Krebs, the Keep Cobb Beautiful Board member for our area, has more news to share! Covered Bridge Church has signed up for 3 miles of Fontaine Road. Vinings Lake Church will have their first litter pickup on Cooper Lake Road on Saturday, June 4th.  The South Cobb Lions Club has added yet another mile to their portfolio - Glore Drive. Their first pickup yielded 6 bags of trash, 7 tires and a pile of furniture.

Picking up trash is not a glamorous job, but it makes such a difference in how our community looks. Studies have shown that clean roadsides attract less litter than those that look neglected and filled with trash. Is your group ready to be a part of change in our community? Contact Barry and get started!

Zoning News
Decided in May...
The application for residential senior living at  4426 and 4436 Floyd Road  (Z-39) was approved by the Board of Commmissioners. The plan is for 104 units in a multi-story building, with activities and services for residents 55 and older.

On Floyd Drive, a new developer for Concord Trails townhomes was granted site plan amendments changing the size of the townhouses and including visitor parking. Residents are looking forward to the completion of their community.

Coming up in June...

In April, the Planning Commission conducted a hearing for  Hilltop Shopping Center (Z-11) located at  1391 Veterans Memorial Highway and then postponed a decision until June in order to give the applicant additional time to finalize plans for the property. The owner has applied for rezoning and also for a Special Land Use Permit for self-storage. The MIC Board voted to remain neutral on the rezoning, so long as the appearance and security of the property are upgraded. The Board further voted to oppose the self-storage application because the information needed to understand the security and traffic aspects of the self storage had not been provided.

Coming Up in July...

Elite Auto Collision has re-filed an application to allow them to use  380 Veterans Memorial Highway (Z-40) for their auto body repair business. The hearing was postponed from May until June because the applicant added an additional parcel to the application and has been postponed again until July. MIC opposed the original application, and upon review of the current application, again voted to oppose the application. The Future Land Use for this property is Neighborhood Activity Center and Medium Density Residential development, which do not include body shops. Additionally, the property is adjacent to many homes which would be impacted by the business and there are no plans are provided for the additional parcel.

LIDL US, a chain of grocery stores new to the US, has applied for NRC zoning for 8 acres on Floyd Road (Z-58) behind and beside the new Hardee's at the corner of White Boulevard. The plan calls for the grocery store, a strip center and a future fast food restaurant.

Racetrac Petroleum has applied for a variance at 5323 Old Floyd Road (V-95) to allow larger signs on their store, which will be renovated.

Crystal Cubes has applied for a variance for their property at 7040 Mableton Parkway (V-57 to allow parking on a non-hardened surface.

Further into the Future...

The SAE School is seeking feedback from the community about their plans to move to Veterans Memorial Highway near Buckner Road. They will hold two information meetings at their current location at 6688 Mableton Parkway. The meetings will be Saturday, June 4th at 9am and Friday, June 10th at 6pm.  For questions, contact Shannon Tilson, SAE School,770-634-9941 or by email.
