SHJ E LECTS NEW BOARD!
SHJ BOARD APPROVES SLOGAN

SHJ has chosen " Judaism Beyond God"
as its first ever slogan for the organization.  Arthur Liebhaber, Chair of the Society for Humanistic Judaism's Communications/Marketing Committee remarked, " We chose the title of our founder, Sherwin T. Wine's, groundbreaking 1985 book, presenting a new secular and humanistic alternative to any of the forms of conventional Judaism."  The slogan represents a clear, concise, understandable description of what Humanistic Judaism fundamentally represents.
MEET RICHARD D. LOGAN NEWLY ELECTED
 SHJ PRESIDENT

Richard Logan, former President of Or Emet Congregation in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, has assumed the presidency of the SHJ. Richard, a retired  Professor of Human Development, has a BA in Anthropology from Harvard College and a PhD in Human Development from the University of Chicago. Most of his career was at UW - Green Bay but he also had appointments at the University of Nairobi and Vassar College, and a sabbatical at the University of Kent in Canterbury England. He is the author of a book on the psychology of solitary ordeals, and another on the true survival story of a young girl lost at sea.

Richard is married to the former Carol Zazove, Russian language and culture specialist. They have two sons, David and Jonathan.

Richard is passionate about Secular Humanistic Judaism and a committed leader.  Among his goals for this year are increased opportunities for communication among members, community leaders and board members. Commenting on his vision for his presidency he said,  "Bouyant is the word for SHJ for this year. Our renewed vision and energy will help us build a stronger community among our members, and help us become the  movement that keeps increasingly secular Jews connected to Jewish community life."
JEWISH PEOPLEHOOD

Rabbi Jeffrey Falick shared his insights into the concept of Jewish peoplehood at the SHJ Board Meeting this past April.
