Sermon: No Fear New Year: "Fear of Following"
Rev. LeeAnn Inman Preaching

MLK Weekend and
Human Relations Day

Scripture: Matthew 4:18-22

Jesus calls his first disciples, who immediately leave what they were doing to follow. What fears keep us from becoming fully committed Christ followers?

Missions / Outreach Group Meeting January 21st

Anyone and everyone interested in the ministries of Mission and Outreach at Peace is invited to a brainstorming and planning session next Wednesday, January 21st.  As we set some priorities for how we will reach out into the community and world during 2015, we'll be guided by Missions and Outreach leaders Pat and Doreen Ambrose and Ken Carter.

We will review ongoing Missions initiatives that are happening through the work of Peace members right now, and we'll plan for the year ahead.  As part of the vision of the Sustaining Our Mission initiative, not only are we enhancing our church property to make it more welcoming to the community, but we actually have set aside 1/10th of those funds to invest specifically in Emerging Missions.  These are new initiatives for reaching into our community to meet needs, and this group next Wednesday will begin the task of figuring out exactly how we will put those funds to work, more than $16,000 available for 2015.

The gathering is at 7:30 p.m.  Feel free to come to CenterPeace dinner and to take part in the Unfinished study at  6:30 p.m. (see below) -- no previous attendance necessary to be part of a great discussion.

If you can't make the gathering, but you have ideas you'd like to share or would like to be part of this group, email Pat Ambrose at [email protected].  At the meeting, we'll also briefly go over some logistical details for Biker Sunday and talk about a new opportunity to partner on a project with Casa de Paz.

New CenterPeace Small Group Book Study: Unfinished

Becky Brashears invites you to participate in a Wednesday night small group study during CenterPeace, based on Richard Stearn's book Unfinished: Filling the Hole in Our Gospel.  All are welcome to this short-term book study, which, as the name indicates, is the follow-up to Stearn's The Hole in Our Gospel

World Vision president Richard Stearns shares scripture and inspiring stories of people who make a difference to encourage a renewed sense of passion, meaning, and purpose in all Christians. The book explains the Christian response to God's invitation to be part of His greater work, which Stearns describes as finding one's own unique calling, a journey of self-discovery which requires patience and faithfulness.  This is an interactive video-based series, and the book will be available for $10.00 suggested donation.  Contact Becky for more details at 407-414-8659.  CenterPeace Dinner is at 6:00 p.m. and the book study begins at 6:30 p.m.  Books are now available on the table in the back of the sanctuary.

New Member Class Starts - January 18

If you are looking for a church home, then we invite you to join our first New Member Class of 2015!  For those coming from different denominations or other faith backgrounds, this class provides a supportive setting in which to learn more about Peace Church, United Methodism and what church membership means.  There is no obligation to join Peace Church just because you take the class.  We will be glad to have you participate and explore your spiritual gifts.  The class will progress through the following steps:

Sunday, January 18 - 12:30 - 1:00 p.m.: Introductory Session: We will provide you with a copy of A Disciple's Path: Deepening Your Relationship with Christ and the Church. This will serve as your study guide for your journey into membership. We will also assign you a Peace Shepherd who will be your point of contact through your membership journey.

Sunday, February 8 -  12:30 - 3:00 p.m.: Workshop and Free Luncheon: We will talk in depth about our Peace family and any questions you may have as we approach your membership Sunday on February 22.
