High School Capture the Flag (HSCTF)
May 18-25, 2014
HSCTF, an online competition, will educate high school students across the country about computer security. Competitors will learn computer science skills, and use ingenuity to discover a series of increasingly hard to find "flags" encrypted, hidden, or otherwise stored somewhere difficult to access. While HSCTF is primarily about educating students in computer security, it will also include other computer science topics such as programming, algorithm design, and programming language design.

NCWIT Summit on Women and IT
Newport Beach CA
May 19-21, 2013
This year's National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Summit will recognize the significant accomplishments of computing heroes and evangelists. The Summit aims to equip change leaders from our community of educators, entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and social scientists with research, ideas, and action items for increasing girls' and women's participation in computing. This year NCWIT will be livestreaming the plenary sessions of the Summit.

SIGITE Call for Participation
You are invited to submit a proposal for a paper, panel, workshop, lightening talk, or poster to the ACM Special Interest Group for Information Technology Education (SIGITE) conference in Atlanta, Georgia in October 2014. The conferences theme is "Riding the Wave of Change in Information Technology." Students are also encouraged to present papers. SIGITE will cover the conference registration and provide $200 toward expenses of attending the conference for the first ten accepted student papers. The ACM-W organization will add an additional $500 to this amount for the first ten accepted papers by female students. Submission deadline is June 8, 2014.

International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Conference and Exposition

The ISTE Conference and Exposition provides opportunities for educators to learn how to improve education through effective use of technology. Participants will have the opportunity to attend educational sessions and hands-on learning environments, build content knowledge while learning new strategies, gain exposure to timely and relevant topics and trends in educational technology, and collaborate with educators passionate about using technology to engage students.

CSTA 2014 is Bigger and Better than Ever
CSTA's Annual Conference has been the premier professional development event for K-12 computer science teachers for 14 years and this year promises to continue that heritage. For 2014, the Conference Planning Committee has created an exciting agenda including more breakout sessions and more workshops.

Conference attendees have the option to choose from 12 hands-on workshops, 24 breakout sessions, two outstanding keynote speakers Yasmin Kafai and Michael K�lling, a tour and reception at Universal Technical Institute's brand new campus in Lisle, IL, a visit to the exhibit hall, and of course CSTA's Big Give Away event. With an exceptional line up of topics and speakers, this year's conference will be the best yet.

CSTA 2014 is being held in the gorgeous setting of Pheasant Run, a 250-acre resort in the heart of St. Charles, Illinois, on July 14-15. Not only is it a beautiful place to learn, it is a great place to bring your family for a mini vacation. The resort has multiple activities onsite including a comedy club, an 18-hole golf course, two live theaters, three swimming pools, and a lot of activities for the kids. Don't miss out!

AccessComputing Helps Funds Internships for Students with Disabilities

Please share information about these internships with students and faculty. We work with students to locate an internship in their communities. This might be a research internship on campus or with a local non-profit, government group, or something else. Students can complete internships during the summer or throughout the school year. Interested students should complete the AccessComputing Student Team Member application, available online. Students should indicate they are interested in an internship. Afterschool Alliance Issue Brief on Computing and Engineering in Afterschool

Computing is one of the fastest growing industries, and yet current rates of college graduation in computer science do not keep pace with the projected number of job openings over the next ten years. This issue brief explores how afterschool programs are offering innovative hands-on computing and engineering education opportunities. Through several examples, the issue brief demonstrates how computing and engineering afterschool programs are reaching diverse audiences, bolstering interest, and connecting these experiences to careers.
