June, 2016

Summer Reading is in full swing for our youngest readers! But relaxing summer moments on the porch, by the pool, or at the beach are perfect opportunities for adults to enjoy a great book as well. My nightstand is home to several books at a time, but the last, best one I read was  The Leftovers , by Tom Perrotta. The story line  offers the reader the opportunity to examine what would happen if people started leavin g the Earth. Tom Perrotta's writing is interesting and thought provoking. This particular novel is a unique summer read that has been adapted for television and is now a show on HBO.

For those of you who commute or have a jam-packed summer filled with work and road trips, audio books can be your best friend! Use your Live Oak Public Libraries card to access our online services, in addition to the physical collection. From Georgia Download Destination to no-wait eBooks through Freading, get ready to relax!

Please stop in and see us on your lunch break or weekend road trip. With 18 open branches in Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty counties, there's sure to be one near you!

Sincerely,

Jason

A Note From Christy Divine
As I retire from our library system this month, I thank you for your support and generosity over the years. It has been an honor and a privilege to inform our community of the many free resources and programs we have available. It has been gratifying to secure funds to promote  childhood literacy, to enhance the contributions of our library system as it has grown, and to meet the information needs of individuals and our community.

We must continue to raise community awareness and support for a progressive and high quality library system.  With our collective help, literacy rates improve, individual futures become brighter, and our community benefits. Let's change the lives of others who are struggling through the simple but profound act of giving.

Libraries make a difference every day!

In Memoriam
Please join us in remembering two special library friends. David Precht was one of the organizers of our Friends of the Library organization. He served  as its first president from 1999 - 2006.
Retired Union Camp executive Rus Boekenheide helped create the Live Oak Public Libraries Foundation and served on its board of directors for more than six years.
Both gentlemen helped our library system grow and made our community a better place to live.
