A key result of the
World Towns Leadership Summit
15-16 June, Edinburgh, will be the creation and signing of the World Towns Agreement.
The Scottish Government has recently announced its new Cabinet, which has the economy as one of its key priorities.
The awards are designed to celebrate and recognise excellence in businesses created by young people, aged 16-18.
Co-operative Development Scotland (CDS) has announced it will invest £200,000 over the next three years into developing collaboration services for businesses.

Venturefest Scotland takes place on Thursday 1 September 2016 at the Glasgow Science Centre and is free to attend.

Dear colleague,
 I am pleased to announce that on Friday 17 June EDAS will host a guest lecture by Dr Fabian Zuleeg, Chief Executive and Chief Economist of the European Policy Centre in Brussels. Dr. Zuleeg will discuss Scotland's economy in the context of the European Union, and how Scotland can adapt to increasing competition, interconnectedness and digitalisation. Speakers from PA Consulting, the Scottish Universities Insight Institute and EDAS will also address the meeting, which will be a chance to reflect on the current position of Scotland's economy and how economic development stakeholders can help effect change. EDAS will also conduct its AGM business, and so I would encourage you all to attend. The event is kindly hosted by PA Consulting in Edinburgh. Last Places for Update on Policy and Practice in Economic Development

Delivered in partnership with the TERU centre of the University of Glasgow, EDAS is running its popular "Update on Policy and Practice in Economic Development" (formerly "Refresher Course") in Glasgow on Tuesday 7 June.
The course offers a knowledge and practice update for professionals with a basis in local economic development, giving you the insight you need on changing economic and policy circumstances. Robin Presswood, Head of Economy, Planning and Employability at Fife Council, has described the value of the course, stating: "It has provided useful context for the economic policy, intelligence work and briefings that Fife Council's Economic Advisors carry out".

Internationalisation

Internationalisation Group
, chaired by Susan Love, Policy Manager for Scotland at the Federation of Small Businesses, focused on the issue of how to engender an international outlook and culture as the backdrop to successful internationalisation. The group addressed issues such as education, culture, media and languages.
Internationalisation Article Series Launch
The EDAS Internationalisation Group invited eight expert authors to write on a key issue around Scottish internationalisation and how this connects to the theme of culture and outlook. A formal launch of the resulting publication -
Culture, Outlook and Scottish Internationalisation - took place on 28 April with the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Cultural Relations, and was supported by Scottish Development International. We were delighted to be joined by authors of the articles, as well as key internationalisation stakeholders from the public, private, academic and third sectors. The launch was covered in the

Innovation
The
Innovation Group
, chaired by Charlie Woods, Director of the Scottish Universities Insight Institute, examined the possibility of mapping innovation processes and sources of support in Scotland. The group also designed a proposal to create an open source diagnostic and resource tool to support innovation capability, which is currently being termed a "Sat Nav" of innovation.

The EDAS Innovation Group held a well-attended and successful event, "Innovation in Action", on 21 March at the Scottish Universities Insight Institute in Glasgow.
A Storify report of the event is now available. Attendees heard from a range of expert speakers, examining practical examples of current innovation activity in Scotland and further afield, and what lessons these hold for all stakeholders in economic development.

Skills
The EDAS
Skills Group,
chaired by Ishabel Bremner of Argyll and Bute Council, focused on workforce development, especially around the themes of underemployment and equity in employment. Events were held to examine each of these topics, and the group is formulating the key messages and findings emerging from of these activities. The work of the Skills Group also contributed to EDAS' presentation on underemployment to the Scottish Parliament's Cross Party Group on Skills on Thursday 4 February.
Event Report Available: Equity and Employment in the Scottish Labour Market
On Friday 26th February a series of expert speakers were invited to present the latest research and case studies on equity in the Scottish labour market, and what more can be done to guarantee inclusive and equitable employment. The event was hosted by Ingeus at their Edinburgh office.
