Good Friday and Easter Sunday alter hours at City Buildings-  City offices, including the 18th district court and Recycling Center will be closed on Good Friday, April 18. Garbage and recycling pickup will NOT be affected. The Historical Museum will be closed on Saturday, April 19,  the Westland Library will be closed on Saturday, April 19 and Sunday, April 20.

 

Marshmallow Drop- Wayne County Parks will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Marshmallow Drop on Friday, April 18.  More than 20,000 marshmallows will be dropped from the Easter Bunny's helicopter and collected to trade in for prizes, and the finder of the colored marshmallow wins an extra special prize. The event is divided into age groups 4 years old and younger, 5-7 years old, and 8-12 years old, in order to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate. This event is located at Elizabeth Park. on Jefferson east of I-75 and south of West Road in Trenton at 9:00 a.m., and Nankin Mills located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail in Westland  at 11:00 a.m. This event in free and open to the public! Easter Bunny Brunch-  On Friday, April 18 the Easter Bunny will be at the Wayne Community Center. Breakfast will be served from 10:30 a.m till noon, and includes a breakfast of pancakes and sausage, arts and crafts, and face painting. Photo packages with the Easter Bunny will also be available for purchase.Tickets are on sale at the Wayne Community Center located at 4635 Howe in Wayne. Tickets will be available to residents for $5 and $6 for non-residents.  For more information, contact the Wayne Community Center at 734-721-7400. 

 

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location. 

 

- There will be a Committee on Disability Concerns Meeting on Monday, April 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Friendship Center located at 1119 N Newburgh Rd. 

-The Westland City Council meeting will meet on Monday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36601 Ford Rd.

- There will be a DDA meeting on Thursday, April 24 8:00 am at Westland City Hall located at 36601 Ford Rd.

 

 

Earth Day Celebration- The City of Westland will be holding its 2014 Earth Day Celebration Event on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Norwayne Community Garden located at the northwest corner of Newaygo and Dorsey in the heart of our Historic Norwayne Community. This event is open to the public, and is being sponsored by National Faith Homebuyers who will be providing soil, tools and refreshments so that volunteers that include the Hegira Counseling Youth Spring Break group, the Westland Youth Assistance Program and Sts. Simon and Jude Youth Group can clean up winter debris, prepare flower beds by cleaning them and spreading fresh soil and straw,and install rain barrels and plant perennials. 

 

Blood Pressure/ Glucose Screening-   Every Thursday there will be blood pressure/ glucose screenings by Rite Choice Home Health at the Friendship Center located at 1119 N Newburgh rd. For more information contact 734-722-7628.

 

 

 Mike Modano Ice Arena - The Mike Modano Ice Arena offers an open skate on      Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m.,

 Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. - 3:20 p.m., Sundays from 3:30 p.m. - 4:50 p.m. and a Glow Skate every Friday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m.   The Mike Modano Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
